I automatically filter HK and China results out of my ecommerce searches. It just isn’t worth it any more. I don’t think I’ve purchased anything from an HK or Chinese retailer that wasn’t bootleg or such low quality it wasn’t worth than the pennies it took to make it.

I bought a loptop power cord thru eBay. Seemed reputable. It worked fine except it put out so much emi I couldnt watch the tv with it plugged in.

Well, the ‘Verisign Secured’ logo on the site appears to be fake - it should be linked to a verification portal at Verisign (details here), but it’s just a static image.

Could just be bad website design, but more liklely it’s a warning sign, IMO.

‘Contact Us’ page is just a web form with no real-world contact info. Another danger sign.

It never stops blowing my mind how much people manage to read into things that aren’t there, AND somehow manage to extract what appears to be personal offense from things that aren’t there AND that have nothing to do with them

China Guy’s post struck me as judgmental and ignorant without foundation… it was an unsupported blanket condemnation and I was calling him out on it.

When China Guy expressed his opinion, I didn’t call him out for the fact of his having an opinion, I took issue with the content of that opinion. You know, the reverse of what someone else had tried to accuse me of.

No, I expected them to read my short posts that lacked any kind of emphasis at all, which is exactly the way I wrote all of the original text in this thread, across the board.

The wall below is every original post from me. Not my quotes of my posts where I emphasized the point that was missed when it wasn’t emphasized originally. As you can see for yourself, with the exception of three words, late in the thread when comprehension had already failed, nary an underline, italic or bold to be found anywhere.

So it would appear that life’s actually too short to read much of anything at all except the name of the forum, the poster, the title of the post and a few proper nouns.

I was looking for a specific product on Ebay and not finding it at the price I wanted, although I saw a fair number of ended auctions near the price I wanted.

So I decided to check the web and I found a website I’d never seen before carrying exactly what I wanted at exactly the price I wanted. But then I realized I had never heard of this company before, and since the product is valuable, I tried to find out if they were legit.

They are in Hong Kong, and I’ve done a lot of business with HK retailers in and out of Ebay, but it was small potatoes and more familiar than these guys.

So anyone know about them? I couldn’t find much of anything. No good, but also no bad.

Anyone know a good way to find out?

As I said, I’ve done business with HK companies with no problem. And the price is not suspicious - it matches a number of completed Ebay auctions for the same (used-it’s no longer sold new) item. If it was obviously radically lower than any other price anywhere that would be a warning I couldn’t ignore.

But I posted this in hopes of getting actual information from someone who knew something or a way to find out; I’m not going to just dismiss the company as inherently untrustworthy simply for being overseas.

If the deal is good, the question is why wouldn’t I? Your’re “Just sayin’” what? That used Apple goods are inherently bad? (Ridiculous) That the internet is inherently untrustworthy? (Ridiculous) That Hong Kong is inherently bad, untrustworthy, otherwise unsavory in some way you are failing to clarify? Also ridiculous.

Scam artists are all over the globe, including next door to you. So are legitimate businesses. Welcome to the global village, make yourself at home.

I know that many people confuse the two regularly, but that is a request for data, information, knowledge - not opinions. Opinion seeking would have looked more like: “So what do you guys think? What’s your feeling/thought/opinion/assumption/extrapolation?”

I’ll give you another hundred if you can show me where I considered the deal “amazing”, particularly so amazing that I created the thread for the (completely weird) purpose of getting high fives (really? And finally this post is particularly puzzling since it comes after the posts where people shared information (vs. unsupported opinions based on assumptions) and resources for more information and I thanked them for doing so.

Hi Stoid,
Stay clear from ecinbox they are a scam, I had purchased 2 pairs of beats earphones in December and i have yet to receive them. They offer paypal but when i went to pay they told me they are not set up for it and had to pay via international bank transfer. I questioned why they have that payment option on their site, i was told they are in the process of setting it up but not yet available. They were returning my messages and on line customer service was responding at the start prior to making payment. But after they had received the money they refused to return my emails, online customer service would connect and as soon as they found it was me on the other end they would disconnect. Their online chat customer service no longer came up to contact them. The status of my order on their website still appears as “processing” it has been like that since December, now almost April. They had sent me an invoice with 2 phone numbers which are non existent, I had this confirmed by Hong Kong telecom via Telstra. Their other business name is Dano Trade and the name that comes up is Hallen Lin (fake name as well no doubt). A coleague of mine has family in Hong Kong and he got one his family members to go check out one of the addresses that is listed on the website with the so called photos of their store. There was an electronics store there but it definately wasn’t ECINBOX nor Dano Trade.
The Commonwealth Bank could not do anything more than contact the HK bank who had confirmed the money had been deposited to their account and they have tried to contact ECINBOX or Dano Trade but they do not respond.
I have since reported them to both Apple and Monster.

Stay away from them unless you want to lose your money just like i did.

No more internet purchsing from me, i can no longer trust it.
