Massimo Marcone, a researcher in Canada has recently found that [kopi luwak](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/010525.html), or a reasonable facsimile thereof, can indeed be created by the perfume-ingredient-producing cousin _Viverra civetta_ of the Indonesian palm civet _Paradoxurus hermaphroditus_.

> In a forthcoming issue of Food Research International, Marcone describes how he brewed coffee from **beans that he personally picked out of the faeces of African civets** (_Civettictis civetta_) and compared it with a mug of Kopi Luwak.

I hope his grant gets renewed, just so that he will be able to afford graduate students to pick out the beans for him.
