I \*looove \* Krispy Kremes, but the only way to eat them is when the store has its “Hot Donuts Now” sign lit up and you can get them very, very fresh. Oh, man. Warm, glazed heaven. Krispy Kreme doughnuts from the grocery store are not worth eating. When my dad was a little kid, he lived with his grandparents, right down the street from one of the very first Krispy Kremes. He would go in and watch them make the doughnuts early in the morning and the workers would always give him a free one. He’s been an addict ever since. ---

Against. I didn’t like Krispy Kremes back in 1971, when I was 17 and loved all things sweet, and I still don’t care for them now (and don’t like the stupid spelling of the two terms in the name that have zero relationship to donuts). I do like Dunkin’ Donuts, and Winchells are great. But the very very best donuts I ever ate were from a guy who used to sell baked goods out of his panel van back in the late 50’s in the tiny town I grew up in. I don’t remember the name of the company, but I will never forget the smell that came wafting out when he’d open the back doors of that truck filled with goodies . . . Wow! The idea of having _good_donuts trolled up and down my street twice a week is pretty much my idea of heaven. ---

You guys are totally missing the point of KK. You HAVE to eat them fresh from the conveyor belt. The limit of shitty tastingness reaches infinity as the function approaches 1 hour later. Fresh KK = heaven DD = an occassional treat. I really dont understand the people who get up-in-arms over supporting one over another. They are very very different from each other, and taste is a matter of personal preference anyway. ---

It’s just a doughnut. It’s better than crappy supermarket doughnuts but it isn’t head and shoulders above most other specialty doughnut shops either. I got nothing against KK but I’ve not got any particular love for them either. Though it is nice to be able to get a doughnut any time one wants. Marc ---

It was always a big deal when the band or football team boosters or whoever went off for a big load of fresh KK donuts, and brought them back to sell them. I could easily eat half a dozen of the glazed, yeast donuts at one sitting. Of course, I’d have to deal with the indigestion afterwards. But it’s almost worth it. I don’t like cake donuts or filled donuts, btw. ---

I’m not a fan of KK donuts. I’ll eat one if someone else has paid for 'em and they’re super fresh. They’re just too damn sweet. I love the original dunkin donut from Dunkin Donuts. Where I grew up, they used to make them in the shape of the letter Q, but now they’re just circles. ☹ They’re still yummy though. ---

Dunkin Donuts are much better, especially since there is much more variety of flavors and textures; KK is only a sweeter version of the DnD honey dipped donuts. But they have nothing like the cherry cake, cream filled, or jelly. The only thing better is the apple cider donuts from Lakeside Farm in Burnt Hills, NY. But only if they’re warm. They do **NOT** keep. ---

I don’t like doughnuts that squish. I don’t like greasy doughnuts. I don’t like doughnuts that combine the two with nasty icing. KK is beyond yuck. Dunkin Donuts are good, but Tim Hortons chocolate cake doughnuts with that hint of glaze is superb. Tim Hortons hasn’t got enough love in this thread… ---

I don’t think anybody is getting all up-in-arms about it. It does seem though as if the Krispy Kreme supporters are pretty passionate about the matter. That’s one of the reasons so many of us were really disappointed when we finally tried them. There was an awful lot of hype about these things a while back, and it just didn’t pan out to the greatest thing in the world. ---

Is this where the Donut Nazis are meeting? Should our first order of business be deciding if we spell it “doughnut” or “donut”? Should we wear little powdered sugar mustaches? I like KK’s but they have to be fresh and I really only like the glazed and they are too sweet to eat more than one … well, unless I have another one with another cup of coffee about an hour later. For other doughnuts, Dunkin’s are fine. But I’m not married to either, should another doughnut shop open up nearby with a superior product they’ll get my vote. Sometimes the grocery store bakeries aren’t too bad. My grandparents used to make homemade doughnuts, now those were the best I ever had. ---

Warm KK? Blech. A definite AGAINST. I really don’t eat donuts (because they’re bad for me, as much as I love them), but I’ve always been a big fan of Dunkin’. Great variety, simple and very tasty. ---

They are just way too sweet. [/QUOTE] Agreed. I didn’t understand the Kult of Krispy Kreme (my next-to-least-favorite KKK) when we first moved to the South and I still don’t get it. Yeah, “Hot Donuts Now,” whatever. For me, the sum of cloying + greasy + sticky + gross is not improved much by + warm. Eating them while stoned helps, though. I mean, so I hear. ---

I’ve always been a Tim Horton’s kind of guy, and never heard of KK until I came here. I’ve had a few of their donuts, but never bought any. They’re so sweet, they make my teeth hurt. I prefer cake donuts, anyhow. On the three or so occasions when I’ve ever bought any donuts down here, it was at Dunkin. In this city, they’ve all closed down and reopened with a new name and menu, and I haven’t been to any of them yet. That should give you some idea of how often I eat donuts. ---
