They are pretty good, but no way would I get in a drive thru that had 30 cars waiting to buy them. Then agian I wouldn’t wait in a drive thru that had 30 cars for a chance to meet Jesus Christ. ---

K.K. makes a damn good donut but then again it’s just a donut. I actually like the buttermilk style “sour kreme” and devil’s food donuts better than the original. Phoenix’s K.K. shop is badly located near a mall with insufficient parking. The drive through line usually looks like the last scene in _Field of Dreams_. Which reminds me, I’m heading to Tucson this weekend and my mom really likes those donuts. ---

Er, I’m with Chris. I’ve never been to Krispy Kreme - heck, I’ve never even seen one. The only Dunkin’ Doughnuts I know about is the one on Yafo Street in Jerusalem. I had decent enough doughnuts there a couple times, but I’ve never seen one outside of the U.S., and I can’t say I’ve thought about it for one second until just now. ---

I used to make doughnuts in a bakery. Krispy kremes are **not** doughnuts. They’re ok, but not great. Gimme a nice big yeast raised, glazed donut anytime. Best eaten within a couple hours after cooking. REAL donuts go stale fast. KK are very good, but they leave a very slight chemical taste in your mouth. (Well, my mouth anyway) And, they are too expensive. I think it’s mostly hype. Dunkin’ Donuts are better, and they have twice the variety. [aside] Padeye: The KK at Arrowhead _is_ in a bad spot. They should have picked a better location, with easier access, and more parking. ## I must be the biggest freak on the planet, but I really don’t like doughnuts all that much. I will eat the things, but it’s not like I dream about them in my sleep (unlike a few of you, I’m sure). Even when offered a doughnut, I will only take one and then spend 20 minutes eating it because I’m only taking the occasional small bite instead of wolfing it down, much like my children do. I find them too sugary for my tastes. Mind you, I used to be able to eat an entire bowl of Cool Whip, just spooning it straight out of the bowl like it was soup. I guess as I get older, my craving for sweets has gone way down. I’m also one of those rare women who really doesn’t particularly care for chocolate either. Most Krispy Kremes I’ve been to will make their doughnuts on-site (you can see the giant machine) and then ship them OUT to area grocery and convenience stores. That might be what you were seeing. I never understood why Krispy Kreme was so popular. I was a Jolly Pirate Donut girl, myself, although that’s a highly regional chain. I’d had a few Krispy Kremes and found them nothing to write home about. And then I realized. See, Vogue, there’s this neon sign in the window of every Krispy Kreme. When it’s on, that means that they’re making the doughnuts FRESH, AT THAT MOMENT. All you have to do is go up and order a hot glazed, and they give you a piping-hot, fresh out of the fryer, gooey, glazey piece of heaven on earth. While you can achieve something similar by putting a cold glazed donut in the microwave, it’s just not the same. Try them hot. You’ll change your tune. The rest of the doughnuts there, with the exception of the glazed chocolate iced, are absolutely horrible. But hot glazed Krispy Kremes are ambrosial. Take it from a convert. ---

Oh, I forgot…I’m not sure if the hours are universal, but every Krispy Kreme I’ve been to, in three states, has the hot doughnuts from 6-11 AM and 6-11 PM. Damn flood control. ---

The KK that recently opened in Van Nuys is awkward for me to get to, but I’ve been there twice, and not only do they bake on the premises, customers can watch the entire process through glass. Krispy Kremes are to doughnuts what Crystals and White Castles are to hamburgers. They’re delicious in a kind of nasty way, and you can eat them only so often. Most people find that Krispy Kremes are wonderously scrumptious when they first try them. My suggestion is that anyone who thinks so stop eating them now, because there will be a saturation point at which they will start to make you sick to look at them. Instead, quit them cold turkey, and simply remember them as luscious delights. Notice here I only mean the hot, doughy plain glazed doughnuts. All other Krispy Kreme doughnuts are shit, especially the “krullers,” which are not crullers at all, but actually cruller-form cake doughnuts. ---

I gotta go with **Johnny** on this one. A friend of mine took me to the KK for my first ever trip and we got a box of 6 hot ones. I ate four of them and it was at that time the best donut I’d ever had. Then, of course, all that greasy fat got to me and I wouldn’t go near a KK if you paid me for a long time after that. IMHO they keep a little better than DD in the fridge. Dunkin’s go stale pretty quickly and get all crunchy. KK stays soft and chewy. But hell, a doughnut’s a doughnut and I’ll eat either one if they’re at the party. 🙂 * * * All I wanna do is to thank you, even though I don’t know who you are… ---
