Probably any attendee who’s contemplating posting about the “retreat” is thinking, “Man! Where do I start?” I’ll stab. After four hours of continual driving in the L.A. traffic (during which I logged 47 miles), I completed the 7 mile trek from LAX to the motel (the problem stemmed from my having asked directions; if you want to know something about Culver City I’m temporarily up to speed). Whoo! It started right away at **woodstockbirdybird** ’s room and after many greetings and a few of the 30 second pilgrimages to Ruby’s Liquor (right next door - they’ve got two numbers listed on their business card, one for liquor, the other for perfume - love 'em), we whisked off to the meeting room our tireless hostess (and SDMB heroine) **Shayna** had arranged. They kept coming. Whew, I’m getting tired just thinking about what to try and post. I’d have to write a book… After much hilarity and many meetings of new folks, and a handful of reunions (my only previous acquaintance in attendance were **Scotticher** , **JimB** , **thinksnow** , **Strainger** , **Manservant Hecubus** (whom I still think of as Mr. C), **Sapphire Bullet** (a sweetheart if there ever was one) and **Silo** ) and (thankfully) minor injuries, we retired to a night of chandelier-swinging at the motel, while the EuroDopers ( **Spiny** and **Clogfire** ) retired to give their body clocks some ammo for the next day. Despite **weirddave** ’s best efforts, we were not arrested (JK dave - I definitely think you brought some life to the party). And **Nen** , pal, thanks for the assist. Man, I only got to talk to about half of y’all. I’m a bit scared to start naming names, because I’ll leave someone out. That being said, those new acquaintance I got to visit with Friday night (that I remember - when on Saturday night I told **Nym** that I was glad to finally meet her, she said’ “That’s what you said last night.” :o ) whom I enjoyed _quite_ a bit included **boli** , **katiekilldare** , **fran** , **Kyla** …ahh, heck, I was smitten a half-dozen times that night (and it happened again the next night - I’m exhausted…, but it’s the ‘good’ kind of exhaustion). Saturday we split into many groups. I initially embarked with **JustPlainBryan** (a born tour guide) and **weirdave** , **Silo** , **Silver Fire** (recruited at curbside - this dear’s got some spontaneity to her) and **Sassy** (with whom I shared the back seat - good conversationalist). We were flying formation with **shayna** , **Spiny** , **Cloggie** and **thinksnow**. So we did Venice Beach. A lot of fun, but the true cincher for me was the guy who showed up while we were at the open-air restaurant. Anybody else wanna try and describe him? OK, I’ll try. What was neat about the guy was that: a) he had more than one schtick and b) he was good at it. His first act focussed on his wearing a garment that I can best describe as a sweater with no sleeves and no head hole. He just appeared as a black obelisk. That most people ignored. Some statuary art. Until it tapped them on the shoulder. That was hilarious. And that was the warm-up. His next appearance was as a Harpo Marx look-alike who followed various passers-by (and you’ve got to remember Venice Beach is all about people coming to watch people) and mimicked their actions. Gawd he was good! I haven’t laughed that hard in a long, long time. And the entire restaurant was roaring! Whooee! There is something physically restorative about what you get out of a truly deep belly laugh experience. Then a little stop where **shayna** showed us why Venice is named as such (big secret) resulted in me switching to the EuroDoper car. And they indulged my felt need to commune with the majesty of the Pacific Ocean. Relentless energy. _90210_ lessons followed ( **shayna** showed us the house they use in screen shots) and they let me wiggle my toes in the California surf (something I try to do on those once-every-decade-or-so times I get out there). All the other Dopers have their own Saturday stories. And that was all prelude. The Big Event was dinner at **El Torito**. They kept coming. When it first started to assemble I had the uneasy thought that I had made a grave mistake. “I have chosen a seat that is opposite He Who Is Going To Get us Thrown Out Of Here.” But it turned out that **Esprix** is actually a hell of a good guy. I like ya, pal, even though we only spent a few drunken (on my part, anyway) moments together that night. I know, I know. Drama queen. But he’s really a pretty sharp guy. So, FWIW, you got my vote, pal! Gradually it built into a sea-swell of incoming Dopers. People, people, people… Man, I just could _not_ get to everyone (and, yeah, I know myself…there were some who wouldn’t come near me on a bet). **Sue** stole my heart along with the other couple of dozen she bagged that night. Think convention. Afterwards we all split up again and I spent a bit of time venturing with **shayna** , **Spiny** , **Coldie** , my hug buddy **Diane** , **Strainger** (whom I’ve known for a couple of years now!!! - never mind what we did in Vegas last year), **Deb2world** and the very complete (_ta-daaa_) **Heloise**. I _like_ you, lady. And the all the others I just couldn’t quite spend the time with. **Doob** , **Mercutio** , **Monster104** and Big-Daddy **Spoofe** , I wish I could’ve spent more time with you guys. Maybe next time. Others I had enjoyable briefs with include **Stoid** and **Melin**. ---

Sometimes, I had no idea what he was saying, but I laughed because I knew it was funny.[/li][li] **Anamorphic** - Morphy is my #1 main man. I am absolutely amazed by this man. He’s gonna make me famous someday soon. I hope I didn’t make him all oogy by treating him like royalty.[/li][li] **beatle** - I never saw him drink, but I saw him drunk. He was a fun guy.[/li][li] **BoiToi** - If I turn gay, BoiToi will be the reason. He was so much fun. Not at all shy around 30-some people he knew nothing about. He drank my expensive tequila and liked it. He rocks the casbah.[/li][li] **boli** - It’s BOWL-ee, not BOLL-ee or BOWL-eye. Just so you know. I know her as one of my favorite people of all time.[/li][li] **Caldazar** - Nice guy, but quiet. Almost TOO quiet. A couple of times he came out of nowhere and made me laugh.[/li][li] **Coldfire** - I don’t think he’s really Dutch. He seems so Belgian. Seriously, though, he seemd like a great guy in the few minutes that I got to talk to him.[/li][li] **Demo** - This man is gorgeous. He’s as funny and sweet and hunky and great as you would expect. She’s fucking adorable. I loves me some pigtails.[/li][li] **Manservant Hecubus** - I don’t think ANYONE got enough Brian. Brian is, without a doubt, one of my bestest buds. I can’t wait to make it back to Denver to party with the man. I hardly talked to her, but i have only me to blame for that. Glad to have met her, at least.[/li][li] **Mercutio** - Mercutio is amazing. I’ve never met a 15-year old who was more mature. I love him to death, honestly.[/li][li] **Monster104** - I trusted this man to look after me when I was quite drunk. That must mean something good. He’s a great guy, though, and I hope to see more of him when i move east.[/li][li] **Nymysys** - Nymmy is not only my favorite doper, she’s one of my favorite people. What can I say about the entire weekend that hasn’t already been said? Anyway, i had a wonderful time. 60 people was a lot, though i didn’t get to meet all of them (I did get to say hi to Heloise finally!!!). A few choice stars (in my own little world) are: Katie Killdare: Girl, you are sweet as the mornin’ dew, honey! I had a WONDERFUL time hanging out with you. You are so freaking cool! I’m glad i got to see most of you there. Of course, there are more, but at 3:00 AM, you can’t be asking me to remember too much ;). I enjoyed meeting everyone and had a wonderful weekend. Wow, what a great crowd. I hadn’t remembered how many wonderful people I got to meet until I started reading this post again. Too much fun! And to think, there are still people recovering! For the sake of fighting ignorance and all… Teabagging is placing one’s scrotum into the face/mouth of another from above, similar to dunking a teabag into a cup of hot water. Examples include when **Nen** tried to shimmy under **thinksnow’s** kilt for a photo op, and the quick thinking **think** stepped up and squatted over poor **Nen** , stunning him into not taking the shot. I seem to recall a ChiDope incident, too, but that one is fuzzy (the memory, not the scrotum!) ---
