# LA Dopers: opinions on LA Fitness?

At the end of the month I’m leaving my job at a big lawfirm in downtown LA, and starting a job with a software startup in Santa Monica. I’ve been a member of the downtown YMCA for several years and I really like it, but obviously I need to find a new gym since I will only be downtown rarely.

I’ve tried the YMCA in Santa Monica, but I’m not crazy about it. A friend recommended LA Fitness, and I’m curious to hear opinions about them. I live right near the La Brea Tar Pits, so there’s a small LA Fitness gym near my house, and I believe there is another one near the 3rd Street Promenade.

Thoughts? Other suggestions?

On LA Fitness in general:

I like 'em been with mine for a couple of years now. Nice staff, not too overcrowded, good atmosphere and facilities.

But then thats probably of little help to you since mine’s in London, England. 🙂

I belonged to one for a while. I experienced a high non-sale-price joining fee, good facilities and classes overall, but a gross pool.
