# La Niña

The local NPR affiliate said yesterday that La Niña is expected this Winter. Last Winter we had El Niño, and I was very happy to have a relatively dry, relatively warm season. The coming Winter should be, if La Niña visits, wetter and colder. Good news for the skiiers, the snow pack, and people who use a lot of water. (Unless, of course, there is excessive flooding. Then I’ll really be glad my house is at the top of a hill.) Oh, they said it’s good for the salmon, too.
I have an N-2B parka that’s just waiting for Winter.

I thought La Niña meant we’d get a dry winter, and El Niño was the harbinger of a rainy winter. But then I’m in L.A.; is it different where you are?

So up this way El Niño means a warmer, dryer Winter and La Niña means a colder, wetter one.
