Late 40s and still partying; clubs or similar probably every other weekend. Large group of friends who are community leaders, business owners, executives etc and who do the same. Several friends DJ for fun or as a side-gig to their real jobs. ---

Never started - never wanted to. Alcohol puts me to sleep, weed, etc, would have cost me my security clearance, clubs never appealed. I went to one frat party circa 1973 - noisy, smelly, not fun at all. Later in the 70s, I did go to a disco a few times - the guy I was seeing liked to dance, but the volume always gave me a headache. I don’t like being around people who’ve been drinking a lot - they’re annoying. I’ll take my quiet, boring evenings any time. ---

Never did it. Sounds boring. I DID drink a LOT in the early 80s, but it was cheap stuff while home alone. No dancing involved. ---

Went out 3x a week in college and early 20’s. Then down to just one night a week in late 20’s. Got married. Had kids. Now it’s a party at a friend’s house maybe four times a year? I prefer having friends over for a nice dinner. Thirty years ago, it was magic to get into the NYC clubs. Now I wouldn’t even know the ones that are the hip and happening. ---

Getting drunk, smoking weed, etc. ARE in fact risk factors for a variety of calamities. Absolutely no one should be victimized, but I’ve known a lot of people of both genders who have come to grief (well, no pregnant men, but the rest applies). Staying sober is no guarantee of safety, but incapacitating yourself means you are far more likely to become a victim because the Bad Guys look for vulnerable targets. Buying illegal drugs puts you at risk (and for most of my life buying and/or smoking weed was illegal - I’m glad that’s changed). Criminals are still the guilty party, but if you fail to warn people that doing risky things puts them at risk you’re not doing them any favors. Hey, if people want to party in that manner they are free to do so, but it might also be a good idea for them to take actions to protect themselves from potential downsides, like NOT drinking/drugging until unconscious, having friends look out for each other, using condoms, and so forth to mitigate the risk. It’s not like I never took risks with my life - I certainly have - but I do believe in INFORMED risk. ---
