Depends.

I’ve known some guys who were handsome/hot, who did or said something sweet. Them, yeah. But that’s not the same as a guy who IS sweet. Them, probably not so much.

“Sweet” is not “I’m attracted to you” language it just means they found you thoughtful, helpful, well mannered, clean, reverent etc. This is not to say they won’t give you some action down the line if things go your way but “sweet” is not generally the predicate to sexy times.

This.

I disagree. It _can_ be “I’m attracted to you” language; it’s entirely dependent on the circumstances and how the phrase is used. “You’re so sweet” can be an incredibly sexually charged phrase.

If it’s a girl telling another girl then you’re in.

Again, I disagree. If a woman is sexually attracted to a man and sexually aroused, telling him how sweet he is can be an intimate way of initiating closer contact, like a touch or kiss or whatever.

I’m sure P-Woman has said it to me several times, but with everyone else I remember saying it to me it had a connotation of “I’m not attracted to you” (either implicit or explicit).

To say nothing of how the Hooter girls greet you, barmaids, strippers, and other service workers that rely on tips. There’s a South Park episode that covers this theme, when they go to visit Raisins (their Hooter’s like establishment).

You know who _else_ has issues with homophones?

[The good people of Provo, Utah, that’s who.](http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/utah-language-school-blogger-allegedly-fired-post-homophones-article-1.1887399) This was all over the news last summer.

Agree with that and with the OP.

A weird one for me (and at the risk of hijacking), is I’ve noticed if a girl calls, or implies, that I’m a “geek”, in a playful way, it’s on. How times have changed!

I’ve yet to be referred to as a “sweet geek”, so I’m not sure how that would play out…

Seems like this is an aspect of a major male dilemma: showing vulnerability makes him emotionally accessible. But showing too much makes him a weakling.

Since there’s not a clear line of what’s too much, it seems unfair. But tell that to a sex who has to appear sexy but may cross a different invisible line and then be labeled slutty.
