Nice ad, MSK. The only thing I can see that might cut down on your responses is that you specify you are looking for a 25 to 35 Y/O with no children. That’s going to narrow down the pool some. Other than that … you should do fine. ---

Wow, MSK, you look totally different than I imagined you. I would respond to your ad if I was single. Of course, I’m not, so that probably doesn’t help. I would say, though, that your info makes you seem a little, well, bland. Maybe a little more detail would help? Like instead of just saying you like biking, mention biking in the mountains, or on the shore, or wherever you like to go. Maybe say something about romantic evenings or adventures being interests (assuming they are). Anyway, from your posts you seem like a great guy, I hope some girl clues into that soon. ---

Single Files, I can understand the no kids being a big percentage loss, but age is kind of important, to a point, that is. I wouldn’t want to date anyone under 21, 18 minimum (that’s pushing it), unless they were extremely precocious. Older women tend to seem have the attitude of “been there done that” and really don’t want anything with a guy my age, 30. sigh… That’s been my experience so far. ---

You don’t look so bad…too bad I don’t go for men. My view as a woman - your interests sound a little “traditional male” upon first glance. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you do have some of the “softer” interests (cooking, gardening (you listed that), reading the Poetry of Jewel, etc) you may want to mention more about them so prospective matches get a view of a more “well-rounded” you. ---

I second what Lucretia said about jazzing up your ad a little. What you have there is kind of generic and doesn’t give a strong sense of who you really are. The last time I placed an ad (last summer), I was pretty goofy, which is totally me–I listed some of my favorite words, to give you an example. This gave at least a hint that I am kind of wacky, so it would attract men who were a li’l wacky too. I know it’s hard to put yourself out there, but you really have to say something that is going to give a little taste of who you are. Plus maybe a pic that doesn’t look so much like a mug shot 😉 You’ve got a lot going for you, so let those ladies out there know what it is. You like Garbage, so that’s a big point in your favor! ---

MSK - it looks great. My friends and I sometimes peruse the personals for a laugh. You wouldn’t believe some of the garbage out there. Yours is clear and concise. You sound like an intelligent, great guy. Maybe Lucretia has the idea - maybe it just needs a little “punching up”. If I were in the market, and you weren’t so far away, I’d answer you 🙂 ---

Sheesh - it took some courage to ask the ladies for advice. We could have stomped and squash you like a bug! That’s a quality of yours to be admired. I agree with the other posters [you’re attractive, healthy etc] but you need some spice or bizzazz there. How to stand out from all the others? Add something about poetry and what you bring to a relationship - be it just friendship or something a bit more deeper. Good luck - I’ve always been curious on how this stuff works. Can you let us know? BTW, I’m sorry that I don’t know anyone in the Indiana area … I certainly would let them know to look at your site. ---

Thanks for sharing! I, too, had formed a much different mental image. Not that you provided the info to satisfy our shallow, prurient interest…(right?) (Uh…just in case you hadn’t picked up on it, my misleading nick aside, I am female, just so you take the following comments in context. For those bothered by posts including, “uh”, here it denotes a polite pause before clearing up possible misconceptions.) You’re a great looking guy, and if you aren’t instantly snapped up by a quality woman I will lose faith in my own gender. I’ve never used an ad like this, so have no applied experience to draw on. My guess is that you’re biggest problem will be winnowing out those who don’t fit your preferences. Lightning can strike at any time and preferences blow out the window, but in the meantime, the more honest you can be, the better. It’s a large pool you’ve cast your lure into, so it seems sensible to use the bait most likely to attract the fish you want. (Ish. What a yucky way to put it. Or maybe I mean “ick”. Bad fish joke there.) If you were a _few_ years older I’d bend your mind, change your life and spoil you for all other women for all time. ::koff:: But since It Is Not To Be–stop mopping your brow and sighing in relief!–you are a _fine_ looking specimen of masculinity, and a total, all around catch. (I am smiling, in the photo, but you could say it is a “Mona Lisa” smile lol) Unfortunately, that is the “best” picture I have on disk. I don’t have a scanner or digicam. I really would like a new pic. That one is about 2 years old. My hairstyle is a bit different now and so is my “goatee”, but it’s not that big of a difference. Just thought I would share a little piece of my work with you lovely ladies since you have all been so kind. I don’t normally post my special works on the internet, but I figure what the hay… I wrote this near Xmas of 1999 for a nice girl I was seeing. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with her though. Candy is delicious, but it’s not as sweet as you You’re more cuddly than a teddy bear, I know this to be true. Kitty cats and puppy dogs are as cute as they can be I think you are much cuter though, with my own eyes, this I see. You really can’t go wrong with more info (except if you get reeeeally wordy, but there’s no problem with what you’ve got now). You’ve got a much better chance of meeting women who might be compatible now. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get a ton of responses–women’s ads get more responses from men than vice versa, it’s just the way it is. I’m sure you’re looking at ladies’ ads, keep doing that, and just be patient. You’re a nice, good looking guy; there’s somebody out there who is interested in what you have to offer. ---
