The _most_ important thing for me, the one that caused me to leave my almost-fiance for another man, was: Does he know what I consider important? In general terms, that is. My best male friend knew me far better than the guy I was planning to marry, and when I realized that, I realized I was dating the wrong guy. Granted, that takes some getting to know the person, so initially I’d probably say: Intelligence, wit, common interests … and being easy on the eyes helps, although certainly isn’t required. ---

Back in 7th grade several of my friends & I were discussing our Ideal Husbands. They went for tall, dark & handsome, but I wanted 1) at least as intelligent as I was, 2) good sense of humor, and 3) able to fix things around the house–after which I wanted 6 ft, black hair, blue eyes. Even at 13 I knew what was important! Never changed those criteria; didn’t even consider Aglarond’s Assumption. Married a somewhat overweight 5’8" brown-haired, brown-eyed wonderful guy to whom I was first attracted by a quietly wicked sense of humor. He also met criteria #2 & 3, plus damn near everything on Dogzilla’s & Edwardina’s lists. AND had a sharp knife, and other satisfactory equipment. Was always somewhat amazed HE wanted ME. If the guy has all the important stuff, Aglarond, the size of endowment is pretty damn irrelevant. ---
