Girls love comments on their looks by any man? OP: With the age difference I’ll go with closer to skeeved. She may have thought you were trying to address her by talking to the dog. **(Hello Again** explains this dog thing well in the comment right before this) I know a LOT of women will disagree with me but the idea that a woman’s day is made just by getting a compliment from a man is pretty obnoxious. ---

The girl in the OP at least probably realized this little important bit. Which blows your a or b theory out of the water. She well may have been skeeved out that that he said it outloud, or even thought it for that matter. But IMO I doubt she gave a rats ass whether he had said it outloud to himself or to his dog. Heck, you could probably make the arguement that him saying to his dog would be less skeevy to some people than him saying it outloud to himself. I wonder if she heard him because of speakers? ---

This reminds me of something from a long time ago. I was in my early 20’s so I didn’t quite veiw myself as “The Creepy Old Guy”. I’m at the Houston airport ridding that tram thingy. These two twin (16ish) girls get on. They were pretty but it was their eyes that really caught my attention. They were the most beautiful green eyes with specles in them that I had ever seen. I said to them: “Wow, you girls got the most beautiful green eyes I ever did see.” I niavely thought my comment would make their day. Boy was I wrong. The look of “Stranger Danger” on their faces was frightning. Lesson learned: It was at that point I realized: “Ya’ know Shakes, you’re NOT a teenager anymore.” I hadn’t yet realized that adult me can be intimidating to teenagers. :smack: ---

I complimented her, and it was in front of my girlfriend at the time, so I wasn’t trying to pick her up, I genuinely thought she might appreciate a compliment, and our ages weren’t a century apart. Then when we left, my girlfriend said, “You do realize those were artificially blue contacts, don’t you?” :smack: ---

I worked with someone whos " technique " was to make incredibly flattering remarks about females and then being "surprised "when they overheard him. It gives you a good cop out if they’re offended and tell you so. “Oh sorry I didn’t mean you to hear that miss”. And if they don’t you might be in there. Of course she might have been smiling ironically at hearing an old chestnut tried on her in this day and age. ---

My analysis: She didn’t hear a word you said but rather heard the manager yell from the back “does anyone know where the case of ketchup is?” and the girl was wondering if she had seen the case of ketchup back by the sink, and thus her smile was altered slightly. ---

This wouldn’t have ruined my day, but were I the young woman in question I would have considered this incident odd, kind of creepy, and not flattering. But since the OP did just take his change and leave, it would not have been really upsetting. I probably would have told the story to my friends as something weird/funny that had happened to me. ---

You probably didn’t either skeeve or flatter her–she probably thought, “Ewww, old guy trying to hit on me, gross” and forgot all about you a minute or two after you pulled out. At least, that was how it worked when my friends and I were that age and dudes your age said stuff like that to us. ---

As others have already said, saying it to your dog when the cashier could hear you (if she could in fact hear you) probably came across as weirder and creepier than directly telling her that she looked cute. I don’t think you’re doing yourself much good by obsessing over this, though – especially since you’re apparently not even sure if she actually did hear you. ---

Recently a dude blew a kiss at me through a bus window and my immediate reaction was to smile and think ‘yeah I’m hot!’, though I also felt nervous. ---
