A 62-year-old man looking for a wife on a TV dating show stunned the host and studio audience by revealing that he had murdered his first wife and later killed a lover with an ax during an argument. Apparently, this was the custom in the backwards part of Eastern Europe in which she lived - that people who died were hastily “married” in a postumous wedding at the graveside so that they could go into the afterlife as a married person. ---

Ha! 😃 I think it was more the _status_ of being married that mattered - like, you weren’t really considered a full adult until you had been married. After all, the non-dead person involved in a postumous marriage was, apparently, allowed to marry again. ---
