**DeVena** , yet another good point. As of right now I’m going tomorrow to check it out. I got told “We’ll get back to you” one too many times today. (What’s the deal with no one wanting to hire me anyways?) Now the big question is how do I tell my mother if I get hired? Funny how the boyfriend is all for it though. ---

The point was made earlier that they intentionally make their beer expensive for the purpose of avoiding drunken louts. I don’t know if that’s true, but I’ve never noticed more there than at any other restaurant. ---

As Shadi’s best girlfriend, I think she should do it. It is good money and I don’t think any patrons will bother her (more than any patrons at any resturant). And personally, I like Hooter’s because they have the best grilled cheese ever! She only hates the ORANGE shorts cause she lives in TENN! (GO VOLS, HAHA) ---

I worked at a burger/beer joint back in my 20s, I averaged 80 bucks and I only worked the lunch rush (about 2-3 hour shift, usually no more than 5 hours including sidework), and I didn’t even wear shorts (just snug black jeans :D). ---

Why does Tennessee use that shade of orange? So Vol fans can go from the game to the hunting camp to the prison chain gang without changing clothes. I guess now you can throw working at Hooters into the mix. ---

A number of years ago I recalled reading about a suit against Hooters by a former member of the wait staff alleging sexual harassment by the customers. Anyway that night I went to Hooters for dinner. It was a slow night and I struck up a conversation with the waitress. I asked her about if she was ever harassed by any of the customers. Her reply was no, she had never felt harassed, and that most of the customers treated her more like a “little sister” than a sex object. She also told me that if a customer got out of line, the manager would take care of the problem. Obviously YMMV. I suspect that the attitude in a particular store may be based on what the manager’s attitude is. I have always found the Hooter’s girls to be a fairly good cross section of young American womanhood. Some are brighter than others, some have larger hooters than others, some have bigger smiles than others, but all of them have been nice pleasant young ladies. If my daughter decided to work there, while in college, I would have no particular concerns or issues with this. I mean hey if you are going to sling hash, then sling it where the tips are the best. $.02 ---

I don’t know why I wouldn’t. It’s not like you’re exposing enough skin to be obscene, just enough to be titillating. The work seems relatively easy because of the limited menu, you’ll probably run more beer than anything. And tabs are likely to be higher than normal restaurants because the majority of people will have drinks (as in $5 beers rather than $1 sodas). As long as you have a manager that is decent and enforces the “no touch” policy it sounds like a win/win situation. The only downside I can see (besides a bad manager) is the fact that it’s in a college town. College students are usually awful tippers. BTW, that I can recall, I’ve been in four Hooters (NYC, Miami, Cincinnati and Grand Rapids, MI) and all have been just like your normal restaurants, only with short shorts and push-up bras. ---

I used to work at a restaurant with a Hooters down the block, and we always called it the “Poor Man’s Strip Club.” My best friend used to work for Hooters; she went from waitress to corporate trainer to manager, so she knows from Hooters. 😃 She said she always made good money, and she had a lot of fun, but bear in mind that you’re working with sixty to seventy other girls so things can get a bit…hormonal. And you’re not allowed to wear underwear beneath those shiny nylons, in case you’re the type who’d try; the shorts are too short and they’re always visible. Even a thong. You’re required to always look picture perfect; bad hair days will get you sent back to the dressing room. (And yes, they have a dressing room.) Lots of make-up, lots of big hair, lots of smiles, lots of skin. It’s all required; the manager will do a walk-around before every shift and make sure all the girls look perfect, and he or she is not scared to say, “Back to the dressing room. Everybody could afford to spend ten more minutes on themselves.” If you gain weight, your schedule and your sections will suffer. If you’re sensitive about men constantly hitting on you and making insinuating remarks, this is not the gig for you. If you have a problem with cozying up to people for pictures, again, this is not the gig for you. If you have a problem with your manager telling you that you need more lipstick and better hair, this is not the gig for you. But if you’ve got a thick skin and don’t take things too seriously, and you’re not particularly easy to offend or very sensitive, you can make a lot of money and probably have a lot of fun. Oh, and as per the OP…no, I don’t think I could work at Hooters. Just not that girl. Don’t think it’s wrong, but just couldn’t picture myself doing it. ---

(Black dolphin shorts were the Florida fashion rage back then) So it was a chicken wing restaurant that was family friendly with attractive waitresses. Then I moved up north and it was practically a scandal that a Hooters was coming to town. Which I found bizarre. My fantasy football league sometimes goes to one of the local Hooters for Monday Night football. The clientele is about 70-30, guys to gals. But we’re there to watch football. I’ve never heard of or seen a customer grope a waitress, and I’ve certainly never been on the receiving end. Maybe Alabama is an anomaly? ---
