> Yes, that’s true. But I thought you believed that we don’t submit human rights to a popular vote? When the issue was same-sex marriage, the idea that it should be decided by what most people believe seemed odious to you.
>
> What is the rule?

Where did I say that we are submitting anything to a vote? I am talking about facts here, not what you choose to believe.

> The model wouldn’t hold up because rape and murder are active crimes one person commits against another (Intent can also be factor in some cases).

No, no, no. The rapist has no control in the act. “She was wearing tight jeans. She was walking alone after dark. I heard she’d had sex before. I couldn’t control myself.” I’ve had plenty of anti-abortion people tell me these items. I believe if you give a fetus the right to use a woman’s body without her permission, then rape should be legal (as it pretty much was pre-Roe v. Wade.)

Bricker, do you believe in gay adoption, or is that child abuse. Or only adoption to the “right people” (married, straight ,Christian couples)?

> We have a case in which a person is a genetic parent but not a responsible parent – say, because he’s a sperm donor. And in that case, I agree he’s not to be forced to donate a needed kidney to his genetic child.

I actually see it as the opposite. In many (most?) cases, a woman seeking an abortion did not intend to get pregnant, she didn’t consent to the pregnancy. The only reason you donate sperm is to facilitate a conception.

> To the contrary. There is little point in raising awareness of the issue; it’s not a political cause. It’s a fact of nature that the beginnings of human life are incredibly fragile and many fully human persons die, naturally, before their development can really begin.

Of course its a political cause. I’m subfertile. It took me years - and thousands of dollars to get pregnant. Very little federal funding is being thrown at preventing miscarriage and solving infertility issues (mine was an implantation issue - I had no problem CONCEIVING, nothing stuck. - I probably lost - by your definition - 30 children. I’m also, we discovered, a regular ovulator of many eggs - even without fertility meds, my body regularly releases at least two. Not surprising, fraternal twins run in my mother’s family) And very little federal funding is thrown at health care that would decrease the chance of miscarriage - like making sure women who need bed rest get it. Or making sure women who need hormonal support get it.
