It reminds me of the Australian tourist who tried to take a picture of Binky the polar bear in the Anchorage Alaska zoo. At least she admitted on camera, afterwards, that it was her own fault for getting right up to the cage. I can imagine the bear, sleeping on the far side of the cage with one eye open, saying to himself _“Closer, juuuust a little closer…”_ ---

Hey - at least the headline points out it was a “captive lion” which makes me wonder how much dumber she would have to be to have tried to kiss one in the wild. She has to go though the rest of her life everyone telling her how stupid she is. Kinda feel bad for her - as it is really easy to feel superior to someone who tried to kiss a lion. ---

She went in for the kiss too soon. Those teenagers, with their raging hormones, always jumping the gun. She should have built up a relationship with the lion first, established some trust, maybe treated it to a movie, a coffee, some ice cream. A nice walk in the park. That stuff goes a long way. ---

I guess she thought it was time to move on to someone with bigger… paws. Yeah, that stuff can come back to bite you. ---

I’ve actually petted a baby lion once, in one of those breeding/rehabilitation places. It was cute, but it wouldn’t have occurred to me to kiss it. And certainly not an adult one. I did say hi to one of the big boys. From a safe distance. On the other side of some very solid bars. Man, that thing was big as a house. Very impressive. I’ve also seen people snuggle up to both young and adult tigers in one of those tourist traps in Thailand. Apparently, they hadn’t had any serious accidents… for a while. Some people seem to be asking for it. ---

There’s a picture of me and my older brother circa 1968, sitting on a park bench on either side of a rather large lion cub, smiling nervously as we petted it. I believe we were in India. I wonder if they’re still doing these photo ops or if enough little tourists have been bitten or scratched that they’ve given it up.
