So the helicopter training areas are so that the students dont block the runway when they crash ?
I posted a somewhat similar question a few years ago and got some great info from our resident pilots.
The first thing that occurred to me-
I’ve flown, once upon a time, in some uncontrolled airports. I.e. not every airport has an air traffic controller on duty directing traffic. There’s an active runway (based on the wind direction) and aircraft join/depart the standard pattern, announcing on the radio what they’re doing; while under VFR (visual Flight rules) so responsible for observing nearby traffic. They join the standard rectangular “circuit” and line up with and land from that pattern.
Obviously this does not apply -typically - to airports with large, fast moving traffic.
I’ve never done mixed flight with helicopters and not sure the rules. So in this case, “just because he can” maybe doesn’t apply and the helo has to follow the standard aircraft circuit so other craft look out for and avoid him?
