Landlord/Tenant Question.

Actually he did say both of these things way back on the front page. Well, at least I was able to parse both of these things out of what he wrote back on the front page - I’ll agree that his writing style is a bit tough to follow.

RADTENN - I’m very glad to hear that your landlord is backing down a bit - I suspect that you are correct about her getting cold feet - perhaps she had a friend tell her she wasn’t allowed to do what she was planning.

Honestly, though, it may be good to start looking for a new spot to live anyway - perhaps discuss a move with your roommate. I imagine it will be a bit uncomfortable living where you are if the landlord is constantly breathing down your neck and now that you have a bit of time you may be able to find somewhere great to stay.

Anyhow - good luck - and good luck with your health! Being hospitalized sucks, and then getting out and being targeted for it must suck more.

That’s probably the best thing that could be done at this point.

Are you sure about this assertion?

I’m late to this thread but I have been following it since it showed up in ATMB. I continue to wonder about this statement in post #20:
Someone in this thread said "unless the landlord wrote no whites allowed, no blacks allowed there would not be any housing discrimination.
I’m sure I’m just being dense, but where does anyone say that in the first 19 posts?
That’s a paraphrasing of alice_in_wonderland from post 11:

Not all disabilities are visible. You seem to be expecting the OP has a missing limb or something. Maybe the OP has damaged kidneys and needs dialysis. Internal organ damage doesn’t have to be visible on the outside. If the OP doesn’t go telling everyone he knows “I’m a disabled veteran”, it may not be obvious.

Yes, and some people weren’t able to follow it, and some people were trying to make two and two fit together without coming up with 5, so attempted to modify the fuzzy zones a bit to change the possibilities.

Do you pay with cash or check? This makes it easier to prove you paid rent.

Czarcasm has already officially responded. I would suggest you calm down a little. While mhendo was a bit confrontational, he was not insulting. What you got was par for the course online. Hell, it wasn’t anywhere near average for lots of places (like youtube).

I understand, you didn’t actually come here to discuss your disability. Nor did you really start this thread to determine if you were being discriminated against. So I can see why you are a bit miffed that people want to make assumptions and jump to conclusions and debate the point that is really off topic for your questions. I think it’s fair for you to point this out and stick to the OP. If people don’t feel they can provide a proper answer with the info they have, they can ask for clarification, or they can state they can’t give you the answers you seek. But hounding you to answer questions about a topic you have already said you do not wish to discuss is a bit rude, so I feel for you there.

Nevertheless, we have rules about behavior on this board. One of them is that insults can only be made in the forum called “The BBQ Pit”. If someone does something you think violates the rules or insults you, you can report them to the moderator by flagging the red “triangle” icon up at the top right corner, or you can go to The Pit and create a thread there, and call them whatever you want*.

Actually, the thread went off track because **Saint Cad **asked the OP to clarify a comment made that had nothing to do with the actual questions the OP asked, and people jumping in to debate the legal aspects of what qualifies as discrimination, and then people trying to guess what the OP’s disability might be that would cause the landlord to want to discriminate. None of that really matters to the OP’s stated questions, and the OP’s refusal to discuss that topic lead to other people deciding that meant he was ashamed of his disability and then projecting their own issues onto him, rather than just dropping the topic.

This thread has been one giant hijack since post #2, and I can see why he got upset.

 • Except IIRC “cunt”. I think that’s still off limits there, too.

I suggest you review Cal. Civ. Code Sec. 1622 and 1624.

First, I wish to thank everyone who responed in this thread. Being this is my first time on this site I have learn alot. I can be man enough to say my wordage sometimes could have been confusing therefore I have to eat some crow.

Today, my landlord and I made contact by phone alot was discussed.

I think at this time with everyones best interest in mind a new thread will be started.

I don’t understand this.

As far as i could tell, **Saint Cad ** asked the OP to clarify what the OP’s basis was for making a claim that the landlord was engaging in discrimination. It was directly on topic.

You seem to be asserting that **Saint Cad **'s question was “What is your disability?”

My interpretation is that **Saint Cad **'s question was “What evidence do you have that the landlord is committing housing discrimination?”

Not only is that directly relevant to the issue, it is something that was not addressed at all in the OP.

Thanks Irishman, it’s clearer now.

Thanks for the update and info about BBQ

Well, perhaps not a complete hijack, as it relates to a comment that the OP made, but it is not on topic to the questions the OP asked.

Yes, that was Saint Cad’s question. Other people turned it into a question about what his disability is. But the OP wasn’t asking about discrimination, he was asking about the actions of the landlord in trying to evict him. Motivation is secondary to the legality of the actions under question. Discrimination would be a defense against being evicted, but is irrelevant to the 60 day notice question, and to the one notice instead of two notices question.

The OP stated he thinks the landlord is trying to discriminate. Saint Cad asked what makes him think so. He agreed to engage that topic after a number of people started discussing that point, but it wasn’t a part of his original point. He listed some of the reasons given by the landlord but declined to explicitly list them all because he wasn’t trying to have us evaluate if it was discrimination.

You were OK up to this…

…because it’s against the rules to insult other posters on this message board–with the exception of the BBQ Pit.

Except in the Pit, attack the post if you must, but not the poster.

Do you pay by a separate check, or are you and roomies payments combined?
