Lanterns (the green kind)

I think that’s almost certain.

That was my earlier point, yes.

Sinestro is the one that says this.

20 years actually at the end of the show.

I think it’s been stated explicitly on the show that the Halogram would be erased by John’s taking ownership of the ring:

John has been hesitating all episode because Sinestro confirmed that Halogram will cease to be once John syncs the ring with the new lantern.

Personally, I thought this is just basically an automatic reset to factory settings. You wanna get rid of the browser history before you pass on your old device. Presumably the normal order of things would be once the ring’s old user dies, the ring seeks out a new candidate, takes them to Oa, where perhaps the old backup is taken into central storage, or something—otherwise, deleting the backup once a new user syncs would rather defeat the purpose.

I just finished bingeing the show and I liked it. I’m glad the story mostly took place in one area and didn’t go bebopping and scatting all over outer spce.

As a kid, I thought Green Lantern was pretty lame (hitting things with a boxing glove is kind of boring, weakness to yellow is dumb, Sinster-O’s sounds like an evil breakfast cereal, etc.), although my brother had a digest of Green Lantern Corps stories that weren’t bad (including “Mogo Doesn’t Socialize”). So I was happy they toned down most of the sillier aspects, or acknowledged them up front (“One of them is a squirrel”).

I’m still waiting for Killowog. He’s my favorite.

Heh, more than once watching the show, the thought crossed my mind “Jeez Louise, for super advanced alien technology, them darn rings gotta be charged more often than my old iPhone 6 before I finally broke down and bought a new one”

Yeah, but a Power Ring can do a lot of things even the latest iPhone can’t.

As long as you don’t run it down playing Candy Crush forever, or using the “flashlight” feature.

Well, the comic is Green Lantern, after all. Not Green Ring or Green Hero Guy.

The original Green Lantern was created by an American artist named Martin Nodell.[4] Nodell mentions Richard Wagner’s opera cycle The Ring of the Nibelung and the sight of a trainman’s green railway lantern as his inspiration.[5]

(From this.)

So they need some excuse to show the real main character.

Now that we know Halogram, the Guardian’s decision to make John Hal’s trainee makes a lot more sense.

Originally, the ring had to be charged every twenty-four hours.

Ok, that’s about half as often as my old iPhone 6 before I finally replaced it.

Aks/Ax/Axe is a UK thing. It’s pronounced that way in large parts of Ireland and Scotland and some parts of England. Which is ironically how it became a black thing. Wherever there were black slaves mingling with Irish/Scottish indentured servants, you’ll find modern black people who say ‘aks’. Or ‘arks’ like I grew up saying in the Caribbean. And, given how many Caribbean people immigrated to England (including Aaron Pierre’s family), it’s not that uncommon among black people there either.

The axe issue has multiple threads dedicated to it in the Reddit group.

I think it’s the writers reserving the right to resurrect as necessary. DNA sample . . . Manhunter tech . . . waves hand. . .

Okay. I just learned something. Thank you.

Live in England, grew up in Scotland, lived in Ireland for a short while, never really heard it outside kids at a bus stop pretending to be gangsters in England, so not even a thing in normal life. Anyway, its veered far too OT on this one. It didn’t annoy me THAT much. Just minor irks.

I read about this guy today, and thought of all of you who had trouble accepting the nine-month-stakeout story. I grew up on stories of men like this, and that part of the show never really stood out to me. (Totally not picking on Steronz here, it’s just the first example I landed on.)

That guy sounds badass, but my complaint was really about the lack of available calories. There’s tough, and then there’s biology.

If you’re wondering how he eats and breathes and other science facts…

They knew where he was going to be. Maybe they left a supply cache, or they air dropped the supplies separately, or maybe a million other ways he got food. It’s not really important to the story, so they don’t need to explain every single thing that happened over 9 months.

Meh, better writing would have had me invested in his badassness rather than being bored and wondering what was going on in the writers’ room.
