# Laptop Battery Question...

I have a question about my laptop battery. I work in an office at my desk 95% of the time, but I travel a bit and move around my office building to do various tasks with my laptop.
My question is about the life of my laptop battery, because I’m plugged into house power 95% of the time, is it okay to leave my battery in my laptop full time? Or should I remove it when I’m connected to house power?

You can/should leave it plugged in so it always remains charged. I don’t think removing it would really make it last longer. Others will weigh in…

Trickle charging some rechargable battery types is definitely a bad thing. NiMH are the most prone to overcharging problems due to this.
Most people have LiIon batteries in laptops nowadays and the main constraint on their lifetime is just plain calendar time. They start dying the day they are made.

On another side-note, there is very definitely one reason you should keep the battery in your laptp: You have a ready-made, in-house, UPS right there.
Sometimes, it is absolutely priceless.

That reminds me of a time many years ago when I still backed up to 5.25" floppies using MS Backup. Took about 45. I was on number 41 when the power went off! :smack:
Of course, when it came back on, there was no way to continue, so had to start from #1 again.
