# Large window always frosts up in winter - what can I do?

My large (5’ by 5’) front window always frosts over during the winter and it’s driving me nuts. I’ve tried to plastic it, but there are a lot of nooks and crannies (and pets) so even it starts sealed up, it doesn’t stay that way. The window treatments are honeycomb blinds that just don’t allow much air circulation. I don’t want to leave blinds open all day when we are at work. I’m not a good home owner and I always feel like I’m ignorant to solutions that everybody else knows. Any ideas??

The first thing I thought of was the heat-shrink plastic, sorry that’s crapola. Do you have a ceiling fan? If so, reverse the toggle switch so the fan blows towards the ceiling. This circulates the warmer ceiling air down the walls of the room, which might help.

It sounds like the humidity is too high in your place. Leaving a window open a bit and/or having a fan circulating the air will help.
And leaving the blinds open even a bit will help.
What’s happening is that moist air is hitting the cold windows and freezing. The moist air is being trapped between the blinds and the cold window.

Do you care about seeing through this window in the winter? try bubble wrap directly on the window pane, if not. You might also try water clear plastic on the outside of the window to insulate it.
