Hey everyone. This twelve hour time delay is ruining my already-shaky debate skills. Seems in my absence, I’ve been accused of trolling, and had an official mod warning; holy crap. I’d better try salvage something.
First, I would like to say that I really believed you could just land on the board and post away to your hearts content. I have a very inquisitive mind, and as such I’ll usually have more questions than answers. Sorry bout that. I can see how I can be seen to be a jerk, who replies to no-ones threads except the five he started himself in the past hour. of course, now that my head is out of my hole and the shit wiped from my eyes, I’ll keep the thread starting to a minimum. I’m not an asshole, or a deliberate trouble starter; if i’m told not to do something, I wnt do it. Once is all I need to be told.
Second, I wasnt pitting Larry Mudd; I was just curious about his statement. Read the OP; its not “larrymudd you motherfucker, start shit with me? you die bitch!”. I was just looking for what he saw wrong with my postings. He explained, the mods explained, I’ve taken note of it, and will change my behaviour accordingly.
See, as you may have guessed, I’m an easy guy to get worked up. I’m pretty bad at confrontation in “real life”, so I guess flaming people in the pit worked weel for me. The first thread i put in the pit, trainwreck though it was, ended with the phrase, man this feels good. And it does, You can rip on the guy who spilled your pint last night, or the woman who kept smoking in the non-smoking section, or the dog that ate your remote. Thing is though, does anyone else want to hear about htat? Probably not. I wouldnt.
Having said that, I would like to point out that I have a little self-censorship; I never used the boards as my personal online diary. I just posted things that I felt I should share, although most of them were TOO mundae and pointless, and most of my general questions could be answered by other means, and my Rants in the pit were a bit obscure. These are things I’ll cut down.
The one thing I always tried not to do, was hijack other peoples threads, something I consider to be the worst possible manners. So, in reading someones thread, I would have a question of my own, and post a new thread. This I’ll curtail, but it might mean I hijack a thread here or there. Ah well.
So, thats it. The mods can close this thread now, as I think it has served its purpose. Or they can leave it open so the rest of you guys can tell me how I’m full of shit and an asskisser, and how I’m changing my tune because I got a slap on the wrist. I’ll leave it up to you.
LarryMudd, hopefully I’ll see you on the boards. Its fitting that your name is Mudd… Thats just a little Bubastis joke.
Could one of you mods have a chat with Brain Glutton in Great Debates then? He seems to have between 5 and 10 threads on the front page every day. ( When I was reading last night, he had 10 on the front page) While I find many of his threads readable, it would be nice if other people would get a chance to have their threads on the front page for more than an hour or two.

Great apology. I for one will be open minded and assume this was your week of learning. It is good to see you not get defensive or flame others in the guise of apology. That is usually the sign of a member who will soon flame out. I know early on I had a bad week and some very patient members got me through it nicely. At least a few consider me a valuable poster now.

GD is hardly such a fast-moving forum that older threads are in constant danger of being knocked off by new ones. BrainGlutton does start a lot of them, but he’s not a one-trick pony, and he’s good at participating both in his threads and other people’s as well, so it’s not exactly analogous.

When you feel a desire to vent about minor matters, MPSIMS might actually be a better place than the Pit. Give your tale of woe a humorous or "can you believe that?" telling, invite others to share their own similar episodes, keep the vitriol watered down, and you may well be pleasantly surprised at the response.
This applies to me.
I’ve fully admitted this though…, however, I think I have some pretty good reasons. For one, my eyes hurt when I read something, anything, online. Not unless a thread was just started or only has a few posts can I read one without having them ache. Yes, I have seen a doctor about it, and it’s just the cause of my glasses and well, the fact that my vision is so bad I just can’t read things on a comp screen for great lengths, period. And if you think I reply to my own threads often, that isn’t so much true either. While I am more likely to reply to my own threads, I usually make a topic and then either just leave it, or reply once or twice and then give up on it (since I’m in no position to read the long lines while online).
What I do is print the topics out on here and read them at home, since reading non-computer screen stuff doesn’t harm my eyes a whit.
So since I can’t contribute much toward ANY topic reply wise, I mostly just make topics when I have a good idea for one.
As for the three on any page at one time rule, I’ve adhered to this so far (actually, I always have as far as I know).
But anyway, my point is, I READ topics. Like I said, I print them out and read them at home. I don’t reply hardly to others, but I can bet you I’ve read more topics than you, my friend. Maybe even double that…and yes, even as you being a mod and having to read every thread in your forum, I can bet you I still have you beat. 
No, no cite for that, just a guess. I’ve read hundreds upon hundreds of threads since I regestered and still print out about 10 or so daily.
So I don’t understand what you said earlier about interaction. So I have to reply to every topic I read to be a part of this place or be seen as having merit and good topics?
And yes, I know I’ve said I’m on the net about 8-9 hours a day. I am. I don’t spend all that time here. I spend them at my message board that I run…a place that doesn’t even come close to the intelligence of this place and where every topic is composed mostly with "lol"s and "heh"s and various smilies. Not very hard on the eyes to read those.
I just don’t see the connection between having to reply to other’s topics to be a good member in your eyes. I do read them, does that not count for anything?
Now, I can see you saying that if I neither replied OR read other people’s topics. If I made topics and ne’er opened anyone elses’ ever…well, yeah, that would be pretty selfish, I’d think. I follow along more threads then I think you think I do.

One last thing, not that this makes a major difference, but it may. I didn’t pay for my own account. I didn’t last year either. Kind dopers have paid my subscription for me…and to just never use it and let it go to waste I think would be a bit bad.
The first year I had my subscription (by all means, if you wish, you can search this), I didn’t post for about 6 months. Finally, after most of the year was over, I started feeling really bad for not using it when someone paid for it for me. So I figured I’d start using it (and consequently made this thread.)
So yeah, I do have reasons for it, you see. I’m not proud of not interacting more or contributing to other’s topics, but what else can I do? Read them at home and then come back the next day to reply? That would work if I printed out current topics…but usually the ones I print out are about 6 months old (which explains why you’d find I bumped up some old topics here and there, albeit on a rare basis).
So…what? Any suggestions? And trust me, I’d take them or at least try.
About the OP, I don’t think it was quite pit worthy. (however, my last pit thread probably wasn’t either).
