Downtown L.A., in the oldest section, has a street called “New High Street”. If you’re unfamiliar with the UK custom of street naming where a High Street is more or less the Commercial, or Main, Street, it sounds rather odd. Too bad New High Street wasn’t a nexus of the hippie phenomenon of the Sixties. It would have been appropriate. ---
