There are two McDonald’s ads currently running that really annoy me: 1-Girl and boy are flirting on the commuter train/bus, when girl announces to boy, “This is your stop.” He smiles and says, “Maybe we can get together for breakfast some time.” She smiles and says, “Maybe someday,” like she’s brushing him off and hoping he goes away. All of a sudden, boy shows up with two McDonald’s breakfasts in bags and announces, “It’s someday.” And girl says, “It sure is,” like she’s sick to her stomach and is afraid that this guy is stalking her. 2-Latina teenage girl asks “Papa” if she can drive the car to the party, and Papa says, “no”. So girl flounces off to her room and slams the door. Papa slips a note under the door asking her if she wants to go to McDonald’s with him. She smiles and gets up, and they’re at McDonald’s, where Papa buys a 20-piece chicken nuggets and a large order of fries. Next scene, girl has driven to the party, and Papa nestles into the passenger seat of the car with his chicken and fries. I’m sure he’s going to have a great time sitting out there waiting for his daughter to leave the party and drive him home. And I’m sure she’s going to have a great time knowing Papa is out there anticipating her every move at the party. ---

I also hate when advertisers think little brats misbehaving is cute. I will never buy a Halo tangerine because of this. But there is a newer little brat that I would like to smack. This commercial combines bratty kids and ineffectual fathers into an insipid buy this yogurt ad. I don’t know which yogurt but daughter and dad meet up at the refrigerator in the middle of the night. The daughter then tells the dad that she doesn’t have to listen to him. And he agrees with her instead of giving her a swift kick and sending her back to bed. [I found it. The Eggo commercials with the bratty kids who invent devices to steal Eggo waffles from their unwitting parents get my vote. There’s nothing wrong with those brats that a fist in the mouth wouldn’t cure. ---

There’s another one if those Chevy ads where the smarmy douche is asking people what they think of the car, but can only answer in emojis. The only emoji I can think of is the one that looks like a steaming turd. Then there is the Geico ad with the guy with alligator arms trying to pick up the check but can’t, and everyone else at the table just gives him the stink-eye until someone else reaches over to grab it. What, nobody can push the check closer to him? ---
