Latest "terror alert" based on 3-4 year-old information

Remember people, we can put all this bullshit to an end in a few months.

I agree with Dio. If there is nothing to connect the very specific, but out of date,al-Qaeda surveillence data with the very vague, but current threats about planning some sort of attack to take place soon, then the sum total of what we know is nothing. Ridge needs to stop being such a drama queen.

You would think that even a few cynical Republicans would be able to raise an eyebrow and wonder if this might be a rather lame-ass attempt to steal the thunder from the DNC.

It is one thing to be cleverly scammed by a con man, but it is truly annoying for a bunch of dumasses to think they are clever and try to pull one over on you. Bush has got to be the biggest, stupidest

BULLETIN…due to code Orange, level Red, Priority Lime Green, Validity Poo Brown, the above message has been pre-emted.

Repeat, this is a BULLETIN that is more important than what anybody else has to say and it is base on some real information regarding Huns and elephants crossing alps.

We will now not continue with our regularly broadcast thread.

Oh, yeah, thats why they did.

Get over it. People quite talking about the DNC days ago. Kobe’s “alleged” victim’s sexual history is out and a guy killed his pregnant wife in Utah. DNC what?

Perhaps Tom Ridge is really trying to get that raise so that he can send his kids to college.

Tom Ridge

Jon Stewart said it best

I really wanted to pin this on stupidity, but then Tom Ridge added his “Fearless Leader” comment. I hate to quote Jon Stewart again, but a comment from a year or two ago pops into my head every time the Bush administration does anything.

Said in reference to Bush and company

The info may be a few years old, but I’m more curious on the age of the computer that contained this info. That should give a clue to how relevant the info is at this current time.

Naw, maybe I should just succumb to conspiracy theories like everyone else…

A Bulgarian Dellckho, with an Motorola 8086 chip, runs at 10Hz. Files written in WordStar.

No worse, a Mac.

Latest flash, from TV news reports, is that the FBI believes that some of those AQ nasties who conducted the scouting on the target buildings, four years ago, are still here in the U.S., so the FBI is hunting for them. Of course, announcing to the world that we have the computer files about the AQ surveillance will certainly prompt those operatives to go about their normal business, so it will be easy to track them down.

From CNN, here: http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/08/03/terror.threat/index.html
'A senior military U.S. official said a computer seized from Khan contained hundreds of images, including photographs, drawings and layouts of various potential U.S. targets. (Full story)

Some of the photos were years old, while others had been taken as recently as the past few months, the official said. Some images showed underground garages, leading to the conclusion those areas had been under surveillance."

Also:

“We know from the way al Qaeda does business, including on the 9/11 attacks, that they do their homework well in advance, then they update it just before they launch an attack,” said Frances Fragos Townsend, a homeland security adviser to President Bush.

Misrepresent much, Diogenes

So your definition of “just before an attack” means, pretty much, any time “in the last several months”? Whatever pops your corn, I guess.

Nope. I’ve already addressed the bullshit in your post. Read it carefully, add it all up and the sum total is still basically dick. None of what your citing represents a plan of any sort. It just shows that AQ was taking pictures of New York several years ago. Even the “recent” shit is from January and does not constitute any plan for a terrorist action, just more pictures of New York.

“They take a long time to plan stuff.” is hardly compelling evidence of a specific, impending attack and certainly does not represent a red fucking alert. Your government is “misrepresenting,” my friend, not yours truly.

I just got a phone call (recording) from Sharpe James, the mayor of my lovely city. He assured me that the city is doing all it can to protect us against terrorism. The Prudential Building downtown is on the target list. He ended the message with “God Bless America. God Bless Newark.”

I’m afraid of something, but it’s not Al-Queda.

Some politicians just can’t open their mouths without lying, can they?

Why would the administration want to distract attention from the DNC? The more Kerry is seen and heard, the better Bush looks in comparison.
Distracting attention away from the DNC would be counter productive from a Republican point of view.

I think some of you need to look for a better conspiracy theory than this one.

The “timing” of the alert is because specific details were just uncovered after these most recent al Queda arrests in Pakistan, not because “They’re trying to overshadow the DNC!”

As mentioned, al Queda often gathers information for up to a decade before acting, a fact that renders the OP’s notion 3 to 4 years is of no consequence a non sequiter. Need more? The latest CitiBanc security analyses were added to the captured terrorist computer in January, 2004.

Armed with a specific location we know to be a target and fairly certain they’ll want to strike before the election, we chose to increase security for selected areas.

There’s still no plan defined in any of that crap, just surveillance (and you’re like the fourth person to say that something “new” was added in January. I’m not impressed). Events since 9/11 I think have so drastically changed the face of al Qaeda that nothing which dates from before then deserves to be taken seriously any more. “Al Qaeda takes a long time to plan things” is evidence of nothing.

Certainly none of this collectively merits a red alert or a “ten” on an urgency scale.

Let us then hope that no one discovers details of the confederacy’s plans to attack Washington D.C. in an Atlanta basement. A repeat of Sherman’s southern strategy would be a disaster for the GOP (to say nothing of Atlanta).
