It’s not just [THIS](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=856175) thread. I’ve seen mods do this on numerous occasions. Mod pre-emptively closes a thread because they’re convinced it will turn into a train wreck. Well, how about you give it a chance before doing that? ---

I don’t really see how that poll helps anything. I respect the women on this board who raise issues about how women are treated here, even when I may not agree with some of the finer points. I don’t respect people who want to call all the men here misogynists or devolve into misandry. No group is a monolithic block of like thinkers. ---

I guess a non-lazy way of modding that thread would be to leave it open but instruct everyone to not reply. Then it would need constant modding. ---
