DakotaDog -that’s not “[out of nowhere]”, there’s nothing wrong with rooting for the Islanders. I cheer for two teams- the Vancouver Canucks and whoever is playing the stinkin’ lowly “goat-blowing” (thanks kung fu lola) Leafs.
akennett- nothin’ wrong with being a fan of the “Broad Street Bullies”. The last team entirely comprised of Canadians to win the Stanley Cup was Philly. Despite that, nobody ever claimed that the Flyers were “Canada’s team”.

LastStanding- I don’t care if you are a leafs fan and you live in Toronto. Pride in the team of your own city is fine. Expecting everyone in the country to love the Leafs because they do makes Leaf fans (like phelan) morons. Just that type, not all of them. Spelling the word “huge” the same way Hugh Grant spells his first name (in CAPS no less) makes you, LastStanding, a MOOK.

Ah, leafs hatred. Here’s my take.
I hate the leafs (leaves?) because they play stupid, dirty hockey. They chop, hack, slash, aim checks at the kness, and push people headfirst into the boards.
They whine about every single call. Every goal, penalty, off sides, or icing call turns into a ten minute Toronto tirade.
The coach, Pat Quinn, actually encourages this behavior.
Lastly, with the roster they have, they don’t even have to play a dirty game to win.
My thoughts on this season:
Yup, added Ron Francis and Brian Leetch. This is the best move since last years acquisition of Owan Nolan, Doug Gilmour, and another player whose name escapes me. Anybody remember how far that got them last year? Then there is Eddie the Eagle. Course, this particular breed of eagle comes with a bad temper and a wonky back. There’s no question that Belfour will likely play through the pain as far into the playoffs as the team goes. The question is how effective will he be playing in pain?
4-2 Ottawa in Game 1. Not really Eddie’s fault, though, despite the horrific error he made on Hossa’s second goal. The rest of his team were so busy hacking, slashing, and bitching about calls that they forgot to shoot the puck at the net.
God willing, it’ll be an early Leaf exit this year and we can concentrate on teams who are actually playing for the Grail.

You noticed how Ottawa scored 2 power play goals last night. Mats Sundin said they were “undisciplined.” If the normal amount of crap the leafs do is disciplined, I’m really glad I didn’t watch the game last night.
I gotta admit it was a bitch to watch that sorry ass performance last night,…shit, why be coy about it…it was a fucking disgrace.
