What makes you think the Democrat’s or Republican’s primaries are supposed to be democratic? Yes, it’s rigged. That’s a feature, not a bug. The parties need to do what helps them win. And I say that as Bernie supporter. The general election needs to be democratic, but the selection of party representatives is a different thing. For legitimacy, they need to have some semblance of democracy, but not so much as it produces… someone like Trump.
Seriously, how much does this Reddit thread reflect any significant number of people out there? I can’t imagine it does, considering Clinton won, but seriously, a highly voted comment says that Trump is the better choice over Clinton for progressives because he’ll just bluster and not be able to do anything. I read the Hill article and the linked emails and then went on to read more of the email dump.
First off, “20,000 leaked emails” sounds impressive until you look at the dump and realize that it’s seemingly 13,000 morning news blasts from CNN, Politico, Reuters, etc. It’s emails “sent or received by the DNC” so there is a LOT of spam sent to the DNC included in that.
Out of the few emails noteworthy enough to get linked, they are mainly a catty one-liner appended to a forwarded new story, the DNC doing push-back on news stories and apparently the system was “rigged” because people in the DNC were calling Clinton the “presumptive nominee” when Sanders was mathematically eliminated but a few states had yet to vote. There’s one distasteful email where someone suggests hitting Sanders on religion but, since that never happened during the campaign, the idea seems to have been shot down.
Really, I went into this thinking I was going to read “Ok, here’s the plan to nullify all of the Sanders votes and drive him out of the race” and got “This is a silly story. He isn’t going to be president” as a response to a story about how Sanders would change the DNC if elected.
If the desired outcome is a rigged election, the government should play no part in the primary process.
