> The Kennedy assassination. Even if there was only one shooter, that doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t a conspiracy.

On the contrary, Kennedy assassination buffs have arguably spawned major contenders for the “Top Ten Stupidest Conspiracy Theories”.

One of my favorites was delineated in the book “Dr. Mary’s Monkey”, wherein a top scientist was supposed to have collaborated on a secret research project with David Ferrie (the assassination conspiracy guy who had no hair and fake eyebrows), involving the study of thousands of mice in her apartment (her landlord and fellow tenants must’ve loved this) and massive contamination of vaccines with a cancer-causing virus. She would’ve blown the whistle on the whole mess but the C.I.A. murdered her. :dubious:

The only “conspiracy” theory I can wrap my head around is Richard Nixon choosing Gerald Ford to replace Spiro Agnew as VP, in exchange for Ford giving him a full Presidential pardon. But I think everybody knows that’s what it was, so it’s hardly a conspiracy.

From what I’ve seen from working with the government, they couldn’t conspire to make people think poison is dangerous.

That one reminds how US Congress agreed to make Rutherford B. Hayes President after the disputed 1876 election on the condition US troops would be withdrawn from the three states (South Carolina, Louisiana, and Florida) to officially ended the Reconstruction Era of the American South. (This is an **actual** historic fact, not speculation on my part.)

> Project Mogul (sometimes referred to as Operation Mogul) was a top secret project by the US Army Air Forces involving microphones flown on high-altitude balloons, whose primary purpose was long-distance detection of sound waves generated by Soviet atomic bomb tests. The project was carried out from 1947 until early 1949. It was a classified portion of an unclassified project by New York University (NYU) atmospheric researchers.
