Least stupid major conspiracy theory ?

“But how can Falcon if not Posh!?”

The best response to anti-stratfordians is Kyle Kallgren’s review of Anonymous.

I read some of Marlowe, Johnson and Webster. VERY different in style. No way that they could have moonlighted (moonlit?) as the Bard of Avon.

Amazing that in the 23 years hence, not one of the crash investigators has spoken up, even anonymously, to expose this conspiracy. And that the FAA would be so committed to the conspiracy that they would choose to implement a rule requiring planes to pump inert gas into the tanks to prevent similar explosions. And that the aviation industry would agree to go along with that rule.

The crash of United Airlines 553 was to silence Mrs. E. Howard Hunt and make ten grand in cash disappear.

My plausible conspiracy is that Vladimir Lenin was poisoned and killed by Joseph Stalin.

I sometimes doubt that know the whole story of the Martin Luther King assassination. Yes, James Earl Ray shot him, but did he have support and assistance, or was he completely on his own for his escape?

The least stupid? The JFK assasin, who was it? I believe it was Oswald. But is there anything shadier than politics? Add in a little mafia, and a little Cuba and it rises to the level of least stupid IMO.

Someone hired James Earl Ray to murder Martin Luther King. But I also believe “they” don’t know who it was, either.

The bombing of Pan-Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie is…murky. The conviction of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi may have been an unsafe one. Certainly the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission thought so. We’ll never know now though.

The theory that refs are out to support certain NFL/NBA teams isn’t far-fetched at all; there’s good statistical data that shows that certain star athletes or marquee teams get favorable officiating.

The attack on the USS liberty was a secret agreement between the US & Israeli government to sink a US ship, kill its sailors and blame it on Egypt so the US could get involved in the 1967 war between Israel and neighboring Arab states. The Israelis called off the attack when they saw a soviet sub watching the event.

My equally plausible conspiracy is that Joseph Stalin was poisoned and killed by Lavrentiy Beria

That Kinsey researchers deliberately aided pedophiles by not turning them into the authorities so they could study the pedophiles’ behavior.

The Las Vegas shooting was 100% concieved and executed by one guy. (In other words, the multiple CT claims of cover-ups, who did it, and why).

Not saying that isn’t true, but I’d really like to know where that missing laptop hard drive went and what was on it.

The mercury in vaccines CT is not stupid from the POV of Joe Public. Thiomersal is extremely toxic and extremely neurotoxic - obviously so as that is why it is used as a bacteriacidal preservative. To get people to understand that the trace amounts used are harmless to humans, and in reality this reagent has been phenomenally beneficial for public health, enabling widespread vaccination, is very difficult. If someone was reluctant to ingest an organomercurial you’d hardly call them stupid.

It’s a teaching lesson in science / public health communication, that was collectively failed given thiomersal’s withdrawal as a preservative in several countries. Albeit qualified with the observation that it would be extremely challenging to have successfully educated the public on this issue in our current information age, plus the material damage from phasing it out may not be all that significant, as we have other preservatives we can use nowadays.

I agree with most of what Busy Scissors says, except for:

Actually, thimerosal (as it’s usually referred to in the U.S.) is considerably less toxic than the mercury compound it’s often lumped in with, methylmercury.

“Although methylmercury (meHg) is considered a hazardous substance that is to be avoided even at small levels when consumed in foods such as seafood and rice (in Asia), the World Health Organization considers small doses of thimerosal safe regardless of multiple/repetitive exposures to vaccines that are predominantly taken during pregnancy or infancy.”

And of course 1) thimerosal was present in very tiny amounts in some vaccines, too little to pose a risk of harm, 2) was removed from virtually all recommended childhood vaccines back in 2001 as a precautionary measure with the exception of multi-dose flu vaccine, not commonly given in the U.S., 3) no change in health outcomes was observed after thimerosal’s removal, contrary to what you’d expect if it had caused autism or other disorders for which it was blamed, and 4) antivaxers have either continued harping on thimerosal anyway, or switched their venom to other vaccine “toxins” which similarly are not toxic.

While I’m not sure about the mafia, there was definitely something odd about Jack Ruby killing Oswald. Jack Ruby - Wikipedia “Nightclub” owners are very low on the list of “people I believe would enact vigilante justice”

Has anyone read the Kitty Norville series? (Besides it being a great series) There’s a scene after Kitty has published a memoir, where two academic types arguing the validity of the memoir on her show (she hosts a radio show, and she’s a werewolf).

At the end of the scene, the academic who holds the position that Kitty isn’t real basically states that she, the academic, is convinced that Kitty is real, but, the academic is going to continue to hold to the position that Kitty isn’t real.

Because it sells books. And IIRC, the other says something along the lines of “Like Shakespeare, then”

Yes you’re right ethylmercury (which thiomersal is effectively a slow-release version of) is apparently less toxic than methylmercury. Surprises me tbh but one has to respect the impact of an additional methyl group - methanol is afterall far more toxic than ethanol.

I don’t know if you’ve heard the story of Karen Wetterhahn - v sad case of a chemistry professor at Dartmouth who spilled just one or two drops of a dimethylmercury on her gloved hand during the preparation of an NMR sample in the late 90s. She fell seriously ill a few weeks later and died subsequently of mercury poisoing - it was not widely appreciated at the time just how penetrant the organomercurial would be through a light plastic glove and then the dermal barrier. It’s now a H&S test case that is used worldwide.

Obviously this would be a concentration of the organomercurial many 1000s of times higher than one would see with thiomersal use, and it is a slightly different compound, but it does illustrate the massive challenge in trying to reassure the public that something like thiomersal is safe.

I wonder if a large part of the battle is just in the nomenclature that gets put out there. e.g. It’s been midwifery policy for decades in the UK to administer heroin as an analgesic in chilbirth - not willy nilly, more second or third line option when the gas and air ain’t getting it done. We don’t call it heroin though, it’s diamorphine

What Glenn Greenwald has said, the mainstream media (basically everyone but FOX News) went out of their way to bury stuff critical to President Obama, which is how Obama is somehow able to say he was the “Scandal-Free President” with a straight face.
