Wow, what were the odds two of my favorites would make it, and not “Stairway”?
Tough call, but I vote for "When the Levee Breaks."
When the Levee Breaks.
No way Kashmir should have made it this far.
This is too tough a call. I’m flipping a coin
Heads.
When the Levee Breaks.
It’s been my pick all along to take all the marbles. But I sure won’t cry if “Levee” ends up on top instead. This one is win-win, as far as I’m concerned.
It’s Zeppelin. As long as it isn’t off of In Through the Out Door, everybody wins.

Ditto, except that I love the way Bonham holds down an otherwise boring 4/4 groove in that song. That’s exceptional understated drumming. But, sorry, I think the song sucks.
So, When The Levee Breaks for me.
When The Levee Breaks
I’ve already voted, but I have to say that, if Levee wins (and I actually voted for it), I’d be a bit upset that Led Zeppelin’s best song is a cover.
Can I change my vote to Kashmir?
No, sorry.

Tough choice.
Meh, half of what they wrote was ripped off of old blues guys. It’s the way they play, not what they write, that makes them great.
Levee.
Kashmir is not even in my Led Zep top ten.
I don’t want to turn my own thread into a Zep-bashing thing, but have you ever heard the song “Taurus” by Spirit? Zep toured with them in like 69 - 70.
Go here, page down and listen to the sample of “Taurus.” Very familiar. I wish the sample was from the very beginning of the song - it’s clearly the basis for Stairway…

Yeah, I have heard that one. I think they they sued Zep at one point in time (I think it was them) but I can’t quite remember the details. It’s not even funny how much stuff was directly lifted from other guys. But like I said, it’s how they played it that made them great, not who wrote it originally.
Thanks for starting this BTW. I used to LOVE Zeplin, and Jimmy Page was probably the biggest direct influence on my own guitar playing, just because I listened to them so much while I was learning my basics. I haven’t listened to them other than on the radio in forever though. This thread made me remember a lot of songs that I had forgotten about, it’s been a lot of fun.

Ack! I completely missed the Final Four Round, and my chance to *finally *vote for something other than “Stairway to Heaven”. But I see you all took care of that without me.
So, the winner is…
