So I walked out into the garage today and this was on the radio. I immediately identified it as Puff Daddy’s “Come With Me” from the Godzilla (1998) sound track. My stepfather looked at me weird, though. He said “I don’t know what you’re talking about, this is Led Zeppelin”. Uh, I’d recognize that tune anywhere. It’s one of my favorite songs. It’s known as the Godzilla song, I explained. But then I heard a voice and lyrics I had never heard set to the song before. Whoops. I didn’t know it had been another song before it was “Come With Me”. I had never heard Led Zeppelin’s song Kashmir before. Funny, thing, though…I had SEEN the name of it before. Many times. Especially on here. Like, I had seen people mention Kashmir many, many times and I always read it and thought “Huh…well, only song by Led Zeppelin I ever heard is “Stairway to Heaven”, I’ve never heard “Kashmir”. I wonder why it’s always lauded as being so good by a lot of people?” So I just went on thinking I had never heard it…when, in fact, I HAD heard it many times, just a modernized version of it. Anyway, amusing story. Well, at least to me. I learn something new every day. And about once a week…I learn that I was previously always completely wrong about something my whole life (or since 1998, at least). ---

Either that, or there’s a few more out there that you’ve heard but don’t identify the artist. Even if you don’t care for that sort of music, haven’t you been on a road trip and just listened to the local rock station? Led Zeppelin songs are like Law and Order reruns…no matter what, there’s sure to be one on the air at any given time. Edit: Ninja’d! ---

I, on the other hand, don’t know the Puff Daddy version. Well, since I saw Godzilla (1998) I must have heard it, but that is the least of the things I have (thankfully) forgotten about that movie.😉 ---

“Kashmir” is the best Led Zeppelin song if you’re a radio DJ who needs to pee and the bathroom is really far. Otherwise, there are about 40 better Led Zeppelin songs. Start with “When The Levee Breaks.” It’s one of the only times Robert Plant actually convinced me he had the blues. ---

Other ones I eventually learned over the course of my life (some earlier and faster than others): The tune of “Ice, Ice, Baby” is really “Under Pressure”, The Wallflowers are not the original singers of “Heroes” (also, coincidentally, from the 1998 Godzilla soundtrack), rather David Bowie is, Bruce Hornsby sang “That’s Just the Way It Is”, not Tupac…and “Mo Money, Mo Problems” by The Notorious BIG is really Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out”. I do have to admit I prefer both new versions of “Heroes” and “That’s Just The Way It Is” to their original counterparts. Uh, that also applies to “Come With Me”. I have to admit, now that I’ve heard “Kashmir”, it’s just not as good. I grew up with hearing that tune in “Come With Me”. It just SOUNDS better to me in that song. I’m going to go run and hide from the forming murderous mob, now. ---

I’ve never even heard of any of the “new versions” you mention, except for “Ice Ice Baby,” which to me has never been anything but a ripoff of “Under Pressure.” ---
