Legal action, reported in the media, flat lined after the two or three initial filings. That’s reasonable since those cases are very long hauls. But now there is growing local unrest over the enormity of the event and the lack of any action regarding it. Aside from the gun manufacturer who has any money to pay off any judgements? I assume the town and school district will end up bankrupt if it is not already. Can the state be sued with any reasonable expectation of winning the case? I have a feeling they’re protected but possibly they would spring to fund some kind of payments to victims and families. This sounds like it’s a lawsuit against the manufacturers that will become highly politicized and by the time it goes to court, if it does, the broader outrage of this incident across the state and country will have faded considerably. ---

I believe the existing cases are against the weapon manufacturer. That’s where the money is. But, the city, police and school system are probably insured. An enterprising lawyer might figure a way to mine that source. ---

The city of Uvalde and its insurer have agreed to pay 19 families $2million dollars. As part of the settlement the city also agreed to improve officer training and school security. The $27 billion class action against Texas DPS is still active.
