Pretty much. Trying to redefine the Tonight Show is dumb. Monday Night Football could get away with moving to ESPN because it’s still the big game on Monday nights.
Start messing with the Tonight Show, and it loses its status and become just another late night talk show.
Not to mention that I don’t think anyone will really still think of Conan as the host. He would just be “the guy after Jay” and everyone would probably still consider the entire block “The Tonight Show”
It was also because if he took the 12:05 slot, then it would mean that Jimmy Fallon would move to after 1AM, and he didn’t want to destroy his former show and its new host even worse.
Unlike Leno, who doesn’t seem to care WHO he steps on, even his peers…if Leno refused to go back to 11:30, none of this would have happened.
She sure was - their son was born on Saturday morning, the day after the show.
