I never quite understood if Redbone’s act was satirical? Especially since I typically saw him on SNL. They didn’t anything seriously.
I liked his music. Just wasn’t sure if it was a gag or send up.
He was very talented and entertaining.
Leon never struck me as anything but sincere in loving and performing to the best of his ability the great old songs of Tin Pan Alley. I’ve seen him in person several times, and have been amazed at his artistry.
Believe it or not, I feel the same about Tiny Tim ever since saw him in person at a high school gymnasium back in the '70’s. I went expecting a night of comic shtick and a little music, but the man worked his butt off for two solid hours performing great old vaudeville tunes with what appeared to be honest passion. I was impressed.
