I said it on Facebook and I’ll say it again: I keep wanting to dislike Anne Hathaway, but she keeps being good. I’m ridiculously excited about this film. ---

I have been working my way through this book for so long… one page at a time, on the bus, on an iPod… I’m well into the Marius chapters, but so far from the end. That said, I want to see this so bad. Is Hugh Jackman playing Jean ValJean? He fits my image of him. I have never seen the stage production of Les Mis, but I already know it’s a fantastic story. My goal now is to finish this book by Christmas… 🙂 ---

Have you all heard they are using the sound recordings from the set? Meaning, not re-recording(or pre-recording) it and synching it to them? This is what I’ve been hearing. It would be weird. ---

Seeing people like Lea Salonga, Philip Quast and Alfie Boe in those rolls makes me kind of cringe when I hear who is in this movie. Jackman has a good voice but not the same kind of style. And Russell Crowe? He has the look but not the voice. ---

The thing is, I can’t explain it but if I SEE a musical I can’t not love it. I don’t love musicals in general necessarily but if I see them on the stage they’re in my head and I want them to be good and I love them. I’ve seen this one, so YES PLEASE. ---

But, I’m sure the studio will make them sound as good as they are capable of sounding; I’m also guessing the _I Dreamed a Dream_ is not yet finished. Colm Wilkinson plays the Bishop in the early scenes. I’m curious as to whether they’ve written a few extra lines for him. I hope they have. My least favorite casting choice was Helena Ubiquitous Bloody Bonham Take-Her-Home-With-You-Please Carter as Mme. Thenardier. I’m sure she’ll do fine, it’s just that I’m tired of her and she’s already played evil comic relief in _Sweeney_ and as long as she’s married to Tim Burton she’ll constantly be working, give somebody else a go. (Of course my own dream cast included Adele as Eponine, so I’ll admit my own taste might not be great or indicative of others.) ---

That gave me hope that this film might defy the odds and be a cinematic version I enjoy. My son took drama in middle school last year and this year (sneakbrag: He played Charlie in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory this year and did awesome) and we drove from Chicago to Indianapolis about six weeks back to see Les Mis. Last year he was on “crew” and we thought he’d get a kick out of the elaborate set pieces. Around 40% of the way in, lightning hit the power station and the show was canceled but he really liked what he had seen. It’s coming back to Chicago in September so I’m kind of glad that the film doesn’t release until Christmas. I’d like for him to see it on stage at least once before having his ideas of what it “should” look like formed by Hollywood. ---

My wife and I saw Hugh jackman’s one-man show on Broadway last Thanksgiving, and he announced during that show that he’d be playing Jean Valjean in the upcoming movie of _ **Les Miserables** _. There was a lot of swooning in the audience at that revelation. I look forward to it- he’s a great song and dance man, but still rugged enough to play Valjean. ---

I think I just wet my pants… I am SO psyched for this movie. And I’m glad that the lack of (monetary) success of **Rent** and **Phantom** hasn’t scared Hollywood away from movie adaptations of musicals. Anyone know if they’re still working on **Wicked**? ---

Waldo Pepper - I agree with you re the casting. sigh. shame they didn’t check with us. and I’m amazed at how much I DON’T dislike Anne Hathaway in the trailer. ---
