**The Dish** is a very good movie, well acted and quite funny.

I’d like you to see the following for me:

**I Spit On Your Grave** -Should be available on video, not sure about DVD.

**Malibu’s Most Wanted** -In theaters now!!!

**Crossroads** -The Britney Spears version not the Ralph Macchio version. I’m interested in how much nakedness %wise there is of Britney.😛

**Hot Dog The Movie** -Should be available on video tape. Think Porky’s but set during in Aspen in the winter, and with more female nudity.

**Exorcist II: The Heretic** -Should be available on video

**Freddy Vs. Jason** -Coming soon to a theater near you. The AssHats at Ain’t It Cool have been bleating and panting about how great this movie is going to be for weeks, so I’m sure it will be eyeball poppingly awful.

3 votes for Ishtar
2 votes for Stop or My Mom Willl Shoot
2 votes for Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (but remember when voting, I’ll have to be able to find these movies)
And the rest of the list:

Hudson Hawk
Event Horizon
The Dish
Yes Madam
Freddy Got Fingered
Battlefield Earth
Perfect
Staying Alive
The Adjuster
The Monster That Challenged the World
Son in Law
Riki Oh - The Story of Ricky

And **Guin** , I don’t know why **hardy** would say _Mitchell’s_ out either, since I have never seen an un-MSTied Mitchell. It’s out now however, since I made the new rule that movies I’ve seen MST-ified are disqualified.

And if **Michael Ellis** is wondering, _Anger Management_ didn’t make the list because it’s not on video yet.

And because I didn’t preview, the list is now even longer:

The titles in bold are titles I’m a bit curious about seeing myself, they they’ll get chosen in case of a tie, or I may just pick them up as long as I’m at Blockbuster.

I Spit On Your Grave
Crossroads-The Britney Spears version
Hot Dog The Movie
**Exorcist II: The Heretic**

So I think we have plenty of suggestions there. Instead of adding more possibilites, can we start just voting on these and we’ll throw the ones that don’t get accepted into the voting for next weeks viewing?

> Yes Madam (action/foreign, a Hong Kong movie starring Michelle Yeoh who’s the only reason I’m watching it but it’s a modern movie so I’m not expecting much)

I’ll take care of this one.

_Yes, Madam_ (1985) Stars Michelle Yeoh (listed in the on-screen credits as Michelle Kheng) as Inspector Ng, a by-the-book undercover detective for the Hong Kong police. Joining her is Cynthia Rothrock, queen of the American low-budget direct-to-video kung fu genre, as Inspector Morris, the cop-who-plays-by-her-own-set-of-rules partner.

_Yes, Madam_ is the first of five _In the Line of Duty_ movies. Its sequel, _Royal Warriors_ is superior, chiefly due to the absense of Miss Rothrock. For numbering purposes, _Yes, Madam_ is _In the Line of Duty 2_, with _Royal Warriors_ getting numbered first due to it’s being released with an English translation first. Cynthia Khan replaces Yeoh in ITLOD 3-5, after Yeoh’s temporary retirement following her marriage to a Hong Kong director. It’s right in the spirit of renumbering/renaming Hong Kong movies for North American release.

This is a buddy cop picture, done Hong Kong style. The action sequences are low-budget but well-staged. One sequence in particular stands out, a chase scene set in an apartment the size of a walk-in closet. You’d think there would be little to do in that much space, but director Corey Yuen and producer Sammo Hung know how to stage an action sequence, and there isn’t a stinker in the whole movie. Well, except for the opening sequence which “pays homage” to the beginning of _Dirty Harry_.

The plot revolves around Ng and Morris trying to retrieve a piece of microfilm that implicates some British bad guys and their rich, corrupt Hong Kong accomplices, but really it’s just an excuse to string together a bunch of well arranged stunt sequences. The finale, in which the two ladies march into the bad guys’ palacial home is as exciting as it is implausible.

The comic sequences used to bridge the action, and the dramatic scenes used to develp the characters are typically cringe worthy, but who watches a Hong Kong action flick for anything but the action? Besides, if you want comedy, all you need is the subtitles on the import version.

It won’t make you say to yourself, “Now that I’ve seen _Yes, Madam_, who needs _Kill Bill_,” but it’ll help tide you over for a while if you’re a fan of the genre. If not, why would you consider renting it in the first place.

Out of four stars:

Hong Kong action flick score: \*\*\*
Regular movie score: \*1/2

I have a copy of that – non-MST3K version. If **Crunchy Frog** can’t find it – and you really need a specialty video store to find it – I’d be glad to post some comments.
My nomination for a flick is **Blood Hook.** It was done by the producer of MST3K, so I’ve always been curious but never enough to rent it.

I have to offer up **Red Dragon**. My sister rented it a couple of nights ago and I’ve fallen asleep twice listening to the bad dialogue. I love Edward Norton and Harvey Keitel and I cringed watching them read their lines. Please tell me if I should take a third stab (haa-ha) at this dog…

As for _Supernova_, _Casino Royale_, _Waterworld_, and _Berlin Alexanderplatz_, those will have to wait till next week. And for anyone who didn’t see it last time: \*\*Please no more nominations. \*\* We have plenty to pick from already, let’s vote on the current list and we’ll start with new nominations next week.

Now for **MonkeyMensch** , since I’ve already seen _Red Dragon_, and in fact bought a copy just a few days ago, here’s my take on it (while trying not to spoil it in case you do decide to watch it):
_Silence of the Lambs_ was a great movie. _Hannibal_ was as good as it could be, considering the source material. _Red Dragon_ was a last shot at cashing in on the success of Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector. As a film, compared to the other two films, I rate it as better than _Hannibal_, but not quite as good as _Silence of the Lambs_. I also think it is superior to the mid-80’s version released under the name _Manhunter_.

A lot of the same elements that are in _Silence of the Lambs_ are in _Red Dragon_: FBI agent meets with Hannibal Lector in order to catch a serial killer who is killing in order to “change.” In one sentence, it could pass for a quick description of _Silence of the Lambs_, no? The difference in the two storylines is that ummmm… well in _RD_ the agent is Edward Norton instead of Jodie Foster. Keep in mind though, that the book Red Dragon was written first, so this isn’t exactly a rip-off of the other story.

The highlight of _RD_ for me was Ralph Fiennes’ performance as Francis Dolarhyde, the serial killer. Unlike _SotL_, where we see the killer only in the context of the killer, _RD_ lets us get to know the man who thinks he is the Red Dragon, complete with his own love interest (which is not a gratuitous love interest, it does have an impact on the plot).

You’d have to sit through the first 15-20 minutes or so to get things rolling, because the filmmakers - in the effort to get Anthony Hopkins on screen as much as possible (Lector was not as big a role in the first book as he would later become) - added on a couple scenes of when Lector was caught by Agent Graham (Norton). It provides some backstory between Lector and Graham, so they aren’t completely unnecessary, but still, it keeps us from getting to the main story for that much longer. So my suggestion is, try to watch it when you’re not sleepy so you can make it through those first extraneous scenes, then things will pick up when Ralph Fiennes makes his appearance as Francis Dolarhyde.

I’d give this one 3 stars, worth watching IMO. Your mileage may vary.

What does it say about me that I’ve seen all but four of the movies on CF’s list? (Britney’s _Crossroads_, _Monster That Challenged the World_, _Son in Law_, and _Exorcist II._)

CF, do you want some hints, depending on what kind of movie you want to see? For example, if you want something watchable, _The Dish_ is probably the most entertaining movie on your list. Warm, quirky humor from Australia, with a good cast. _The Adjuster_, by contrast, is probably the best “film” movie, but then I’m a sucker for Egoyan.

On the other hand, if you want something horribly awful that will give you fuel for a vein-bursting rant, then go with _Incredibly Strange Creatures._ Along those lines, neither _Hudson Hawk_ nor _Ishtar_ is as bad as their reputations would suggest, by the way, so if you’re hoping for something you can eviscerate in an entertaining fashion, best look elsewhere.

Put me down for _Battlefield Earth_. It’s not that I’m afraid to shell out a couple bucks to rent it (okay, so maybe that’s a _secondary_ reason), but I’d be embarrassed just to rent the damn thing. I have a morbid curiosity to see it just to see what sort of apallingly bad dreck-fest everyone has said it is, but I have a feeling that after watching it my conscience would probably be telling me, “See? I _told_ you it was bad!”
