Has there been a sequel to the novel?
No sequel, but I can recommend Lindqvist’s take on the zombie apocalypse in Handling the Undead. It’s not really up to the standards of Let the RIght One In, IMO, but then again, that’s a hard act to follow, and it’s still pretty cool for what it is.
Yes. Sort of. John Ajvide Lindqvist has written an epilogue to “Let the Right One In” in the form of a short story titled “Let the Old Dreams Die”. It appeared in the collection “Paper Walls” published in January of 2011 in Sweden. As far as I can determine, an English language translation has not yet been released.
Wow, that excites me! Thanks!
I didn’t read the book. Nor do I plan to. The film leaves the question open. I prefer my interpretation.
I guess it’s hard for me to see Hakan as someone who has been supplying Eli with blood for a long time because of how incompetent he is shown to be in the film. Also, since I know the screenplay was written by the book’s author, it’s hard for me to separate his original intent.
But I suppose you could reason that the length of the Hakan/Eli relationship was left unstated in the film “Let the Right One In” so that the viewer could bring his or her own interpretation to it.
The book is superb - highly recommended.
Because of this thread I am just about to watch Let Me In. I absolutely loved the Swedish one so I’m a little wary but will watch with an open mind.
(Also, there isn’t quite such a barrier to market in the UK for subtitled movies as some people in this thread are making out. Sure, not blockbusters, but for independent movies and so on, we do get the ones that are really big in their host country, on general release. And the remark about Chinese not watching subtitled movies is just flat-out wrong.)
