What unpopular opinions do you hold regarding books, movies, art etc? Let them all out! I’ll start…. Beyoncé Knowles is probably a better actress than Halle Berry. Josh Whedon is a mediocre writer. The first hour of ROTK is the most boring of the whole trilogy. Only half of Romeo & Juliet is any good. LS Lowry’s ‘matchstick men’ pictures are tiresome and dated. Charlize Theron is ugly. :eek: Small print: all statements are opinion only. This is not a thread to discuss these opinions, merely to state them. If you really disagree, start your own thread. ---

Okay, I’ll play! Uma Thurman: Fugly Julia Roberts: Fugly Cameron Diaz: Fugly It’s my general opinion that Hollywood casts \*interesting \* looking actresses rather than beautiful ones- we just assume that since they are movie stars, they are hot. All of the above mentioned actresses are distinctive, but not very pretty. Brad Pitt: wonderful comedic actor, total crap otherwise Samuel L. Jackson: totally overrated Anime/ Japanese horror movies: \*exotic \* does not equal _good_ Sideways: perhaps the worst movie I’ve ever seen to the OP: Halle Berry is perhaps the worst actress in the business today…I think that my left testicle could do a more credible job. So I don’t know that it counts as heresy. ---

My respect for athletes totally kicks ass over my respect for supermodels. I’d rather see athletes on the runway with the latest fashions on, rather than “silly little stick-figure women with poofy lips who only think of themselves.” ---

**South Park** : It can be quite funny sometimes, but no matter what anyone says, it does **not** offend both sides equally. Sometimes it showcases the worst strawmen I can think of. Monty Python is not very funny (with one or two exceptions), and definitely doesn’t stand up to repeated viewings. ---

Ron Howard: Overrated. Lay off the schmaltz. Quit Oscarbating and make a good movie Russel Crowe: Not talented, unless playing Russel Crowe is a talent. Another oscarbator Independant film does not equal quality. Low budget does not mean that a film is good. The sooner we learn that, the better. Elizabeth Taylor: unattractive scenery chewer. I’ve never understood how she got to be as famous as she is. Julia Roberts: Her teeth are the most impressive thing about her. The only reason that she won her oscar is that she threatened to bite the academy if she didn’t. Paul Thomas Anderson: Look at me. Despite all of his bad press and the unrelenting hatred of liberals everywhere, George W. Bush is actually a brilliant, insightful statesman who truly cares about the people of the United States. He doesn’t govern by polls, is strongly opposed to involving the U.S. armed forces in “nation-building,” detests “fuzzy math” and will leave the country far better than he found it. :rolleyes: Oh, never mind. I don’t believe it either. ---

The Harry Potter series is boring, derivitive crap written with a rubberstamp. I don’t care if I ever see any of the LotR movies again, and every time I see Elijah Wood’s big watery Frodo-eyes I want to scoop them out with a spoon. Kubric’s _Dr. Strangelove_ was a piece of shit, and it gets worse every time I try to watch it. ---

My friends and I play this game, except we don’t call it “Heresy”. Instead, we call it “There…I said it.” _The Monkees_ are better than _The Beatles_. :eek: _The Pixies_ are a horrible music group. I’ll never understand what people see in. If I wanted to hear incoherent distorted screaming I’d go to an insane asylum. Renee Zellwegger = HIDEOUS. _Mama’s Family_ is one of the top ten sitcoms of all time. _Caddyshack_ = completely unfunny. The scenes seem thrown together at random, and utterly pointless. See also, _Stripes_. M. Night Shyamalan can do no wrong. _Saturday Night Live_ is just as funny as it always was, and their first year is highly romanticized and overrated. In a related story, John Belushi is not funny at all. Comparisons of Chris Farley to John Belushi are insulting…to Chris. _The Daily Show_ has jumped the shark. ---

Tom Hanks’s acting in Forrest Gump was atrocious. Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson both have as much talent as Madonna (basically zilch) There’s no such thing as good visual art. Was Picasso better than the artist painting caricatures on the corner? No way. It’s all subjective. ---

John Norman is a better fantasy writer than Robert E. Howard and Tolkein. This probably isn’t heresy to Those Who Know, but the best fantasy writer in America right now is Tim Powers. Hentai are better than non-adult anime because the combination of raw sex, a storyline and weird Japanese porn cultural kinks makes them always surprising and interesting to watch. This may not be heresy to everyone on the board, but mainstream literature is as dead as a doornail. In a few years, it’ll be strictly the preserve of specialty houses. Most movies and TV shows would be better scripted if directors were required to find good scripts and work from them instead of pulling stuff out of their asses. Most movie and TV show scripts would be better written if writers were trained in formulaic stuff for a time, so they’d know what conventions they were breaking and why when they wrote unconvetional, i.e., interesting stuff. ---
