You’re talking about crumpets, right? I think that’s what an English Muffin is called (in England). (and here)
I just wanted to say that I saw this thread at work and had the old Thomas’s jingle wedged firmly in my forebrain for the rest of the day.
“How can somethin’ that looks so funny, taste so good?
Bigger on the bottom, smaller on the top,
how you’ll love to watch 'em pop!..”
cheers

Thomas’ are simply streets ahead of the competition. They already received special mention by me over in the ‘Products That Really Work’ thread. Their crumb, texture and authentic corn meal coating beats the band. Their sourdough variety bumps up the quality of my triple sausage red wine and sourdough French bread stuffing that I make each Thanksgiving.
I have been craving them lately but detest paying over $2.[sup]00[/sup] per package for them. I nearly broke down and snagged them at $2.[sup]39[/sup] last night but settled for a bagel and cream cheese instead. There is nothing so tasty as a freshly poached egg on a crispy straight-out-of-the toaster Thomas’ English muffin that has been slathered with butter. All that’s wanting is a dusting of salt and pepper. Pure-dee heaven on a plate.
No, crumpets are slightly different. They’re flat, and you don’t split them in half. You spread the butter and jam on top and let them seep into the many large pores. Mmmmmmmmm…
TEM w/ butter and an over-easy egg is good of course but not pure bliss. Pure bliss is a TEM, crisp and tender and piping hot, then a schmear of cream cheese and topped with a thin layer of jalepeno jelly.

Gotta admit…I love nooks and crannies…Oh, you mean on muffins…Oh, not that kind of muffins…
Well, I like English muffins with melted butter and bitter marmalade.
mmmmmm
muffin on the bottom
saturate with butter
fresh strawberry jam
one egg fried over-medium on the top
pop the yoke from the bottom with a toothpick so it mingles with the jam. There is always more room in the nooks and crannies for more liquid.
Break it in half, and I can make two.
mmmmmmmm
they’re the muffins you buy in the bread aisle, called cunningly enough English muffins, guano lad. Tiptop make them here I think
They’re not crumpets and they’re not muffins. Flat things you pull or cut apart and toast. I’m sure you could get them even in deepest darkest Dunedin
OMG.
Egg with jam?
That’s just disgusting. It’s even worse than Mr P’s brie and marmalade sandwiches.
::shudder:: what is the world coming to?
I’ve gone jamming after eggs on a muffin.
Oh! That’s right, we’re talking about those toaster thingies …
I don’t know if any of you have tried other brands besides Thomas’, my advice is DON’T DO IT!! They are just NOT the same…Mmmm nooks and crannies. Must have one now! (Thomas’ E.M.s RULE!!)
I wouldn’t eat them anyway, me being a weird food disliking type person. So all those various muffiny thingies are beyond my scope of comprehension.
You are so right!
Why?? Why?? Why are there no English Muffins in MY bread aisle?? I love English Muffins.
sniff Maybe if I poke this here toast with a fork, I can get me some nooks and crannies as well…
Funny how the egg sammich issue has finally been brought to light. If feels good to get that off one’s chest, doesn’t it?
I’ve got to admit, I find it almost inhuman that someone would put toast with jam and egg into their mouth at the same time, but then I have a daughter who loves her peanut butter and ham sandwiches so who am I TO COMMENT???
My kids are developing a serious jones for a TEM, lightly buttered with an over-easy egg on top, for breakfast before school. I would like to say that introducing TEM into my household about 6 weeks ago and using it frequently during the breakfast preparation phase of our daily routine has in fact positively influenced my children’s educational advances.
Sadly, this is not the case. The Man-Cub just came home with a 73 in Spanish for the marking period. I just need to know straight out- how much of this is the responsiblity of the people who make TEM’s. and how much of this is my responsibility???
Aside from the egg and jam combinations, what are people putting ON their TEM’s ??? ( Besides their tongues. )
