Rammstein is a fantastic band. They are the best thing to come out of Germany since the BMW. While I was a bit disappointed with Reise Reise (still an excellent album though), Rosenrot was a fabulous return to form. I also love their video clips. They are smart enough to keep them, funny, different from one another but always interesting. Hopefully, their new album will be out sometime in 2008. ---

I’ve loved Rammstein for about a decade now, plus a year or two. I love them because they’re (like others said) a metal band that doesn’t take themselves seriously (at least mostly). Fire, twisted themes for songs, dildoes, what’s not to love? And man, Till is THE example of Sexy but not Attractive (to me). If I look at him with a critical eye, I must admit I don’t find his features attractive. But OH MY GOD HE IS THE SEXIEST BEAST ON THE PLANET. Like in Ich Will, after all of the “wir wollen…” lines, when he says that “ja”… that makes my insides quiver every.damn.time. ---

I love Rammstein, and Mutter is probably one of my top 10 albums of all-time. But since then I haven’t really gotten into their albums as a whole. One or two songs have stuck out at me but I haven’t bought one of their albums since Mutter. ---

I saw them along with KMFDM and Lords of Acid in '97. That was a fucking awesome concert, and they put on an incredible show. Any act that opens with a guy wearing a mail coat and a cybernetic-looking laser pointer growling gutturally in German, slowly panning the laser over clouds of smoke, and then GETS SET ON FIRE certainly gets your attention. Later simulating sadomasochistic homosexual rape with a dildo the size of your arm that’s rigged to spray “urine” like a hose over the crowd also tends to make an impression. Oh yeah, and their music is fun too 🙂 ---

I love Rammstein as well. I think my first exposure to them was back in 1996 at the Duncker Club in Berlin. I have all their albums of course and they’re all on my iPod. They are a great band to see live. I’ve seen them three times now the first two times in smaller venues where you got really close to the flames and the last time in a bigger arena where they had so much more fire so that even a fairly long way from the stage you could feel the heatwave. Yeah most of the lyrics are not high poetry if you understand German but they are rather fun (in a very twisted way) and some of them are quite clever. I have a suggestion for the next song for Rammstein to cover. I think they could do a very disturbing version of Right said Fred’s “I’m too sexy”. Laibach could probably do it as well. ---

Count me among those enjoy Rammstein. A question about the lyrics though: My interpretation of the German lyrics to Du Hast is that “hast” is meant to be interpreted both as “hate” and “have,” depending on the sentence. When it’s “Du hast.” it’s “You hate.” When it’s “Du hast mir gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt.” it’s “You have asked me and I have said nothing.” (I have three years of high school German, and I haven’t used it in a decade, so that might not be exact.) Most people seem to interpret is only as “hate,” but they’re basing it off the translation on the American version of the album. As mentioned above, the English translations leave something to be desired. ---

As mentioned above, the English translations leave something to be desired. It’s a audio pun, but not a written one. “du hast” means “you have”. “du haßt (hasst)” means “you hate”. The way Till says “hast” emphasizes an ‘s’ sound, which would sound a bit more like haßt. It’s an audio pun. The lyrics of Du Hast are actually playing on German wedding vows (asking if you want to love and be faithful to her until death separates you). The high pitched “jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa” is the woman and then Till jumps in and yells “nein!”. 😃 ---
