…or the lack thereof. I know this topic reaches across all genres. Here’s what I have so far: 1. _Narcolepsy_ by Ben Folds Five 2. _Brain Stew_ by Green Day 3. _Goodnight LA_ by Counting Crows 4. _I Wish I Was a Girl_ by Counting Crows (“But I can’t sleep at night”) 5. _I’m Not Sleeping_ by Counting Crows 6. _I Need Some Sleep_ by The Eels 7. _Sleep to Dream_ by Fiona Apple And I know there are thousands others that are eluding me. Care to contribute? ---

I wonder, I wonder, I wonder, I wonder how I look when I’m asleep? I wonder, I wonder, I wonder, How do I look when I’m done counting sheep? Please tell me, Please tell me, Please tell me, I promise that the secret I will keep! I think I’ll spend the day In Phil-a-del-phi-a, And find out how I look when I’m asleep! ---

Grandaddy’s _Levitz_: “Oh to sleep, perchance to dream… to live again those joyous scenes…” Sparklehorse mentions sleep in a lot of his/their songs: “he’s been known to sleep on piles of dry leaves abandoned on October lawns sometimes he awakens with spiders on his eyelids” from _Rainmaker_ “I woke up in a burnt out basement sleeping with metal hands in a spirit ditch” from _Spirit Ditch_ “my bones wish to escape and run along an alien expanse to collaspe from the heat in a cartoonish heap to sleep oh to sleep” (the entire lyrics of _Box of Stars (part one)_ “now in perfect peace I rest/now I lay me down to sleep in full salvation blest/I pray my soul to keep for thy grace that keeps me still/if I die before I wake safe from every ill/I pray my soul to take” from _Come On In_ etc. etc. etc., and they’re all great songs to boot. (The song _Spirit Ditch_ includes a phone message, ostensibly from the artist’s mother, describing a dream she had about him and telling him to be careful. It’s really cool.) ---
