Let's do another "help me buy a gaming PC" thread

Too bad, but the G446 is a badass machine. 14th gen processor, DDR5 RAM, double the storage. It’s still a damn good deal.

Just think of it as getting that first big upgrade up front.

Mrs Cad wanted her computer upgraded for Christmas. Strangely her Haswell (4th Gen) i5 is starting to run a bit slow. She has the old CoolerMaster HAF 932 so airflow not a problem. I waited for Newegg’s Black Friday sale and for under $800 I got
12700K Alder Lake
ASRock Z790 PG Lightning
2 X 16GB DDR5 G.SKILL Ripjaws S5
Sapphire Pulse XT 6700 12GB DDR6 VRAM

Next upgrade will be to take her 2TB harddrive and trade it for an M.2 SSD. I’ll probably replace the fans eventually before they wear out and maybe an AIO cooler - haven’t decided yet.

Not this weekend. The station I need is among those to be closed for maintenance and that store still has a $1620 open box.

We went out to Fairfax for lunch and a G446; my SO doesn’t like Maryland. Getting it set up took a couple of hours; all it would do was light up at first.

I’ll have to get a network hub so both computers can be wired. The new box randomly disconnects from the Wi-Fi even though the cable modem is almost directly above the computers.

Steam and Logitech are installed; haven’t done anything else yet.

As expected, Starfield runs much smoother; I wasn’t ready for how much smoother, though. It’s almost like a completely different game.

That and RimWorld are the only games on it so far. My RW is so heavily-modded that the elapsed time between loading the game and being able to play takes over 45 minutes on my old computer. I’m hoping the faster system will significantly reduce load time with all those mods enabled.

Eventually, all my VR stuff will be on the 446. Not much point in doing that until my gaming area can spread out; it’s currently sharing space with my office area and both are squeezed into one side of the dining room.

Bumping this because I’m traveling next week and am going to be near a MicroCenter once again, so I was perusing the site. They have a very nice gaming PC that I can’t build for the price. Unlike the last PC I recommended, I’m not personally buying this as I have a comparable PC already (Intel instead of AMD, but also with the RTX 5080), but it’s just one of the better deals on a fairly high end machine and thought someone might be interested. Much like many of their more insane deals, this one is limit 1 and in store only.

That, surprisingly, doesn’t seem bad at all. Actually looks good and at a very good price.

Not 100% sure about the cooling system but that’s more of a nitpick.

Yeah that looks nice. And now with RAM insane like video cards went insane, prebuilts have two components cheaper than we can build ourselves.

I’ve had my next computer parts list in pcpartpicker for a while now. I’d always figured probably 2025 Black Friday (ie: now) to buy it, but this whole ram thing has scared me off. I had selected G.Skill Ripjaws S5 64 GB (2x32) DDR5-6000 CL30 for $200. It bounced between $193 and $204 for the better part of a year until a couple months ago. Now listed at $660! *faints*

So, yeah. Tough to beat a prebuilt, currently.
