With all the creative RPG and computer game players on here, I suspect many of you have given your characters humorous and oddball names, as I have. Let’s hear them!

I really only played the superhero game Champions (the board game version). I had such characters as:

A Wolverine knockoff character named **The Otter**.
An Iron Man copy named **Ferric Man**.
A Mystique-like character called **Mystaque**.
A character with Power Drain abilities called **Drano**.
A character called **The Potato**. His real name was Russ…short for Russet.
A character called\*\* El Autobus\*\*, just because I thought that would be a cool superhero name.

The game came set up with an initial mission in which you fight COBRA (led by The Brick). So we opposed them with a group called MONGOOSE.

CoH… a huge yellow tanker named **Mean Mr. Mustard**. A pretty good Rorschach clone (scrapper) who got genned and renamed **Mr. Cellophane**. A very good V clone (stalker) named **Count Q**. My blaster babe, **Sgt. Glory B.** (Accompanied for a time by a brute, **Glory Daze**.) A blaster named\*\* Sioux Sheff\*\*. A half-human, half Rikti controller named **Dr. Gigglez**.

And then there were the prosaic but always commented on (by the savvy) **R A Heinlein** , **Sir Richard F. Burton** , **Vond** , \*\*Grav Bent Diebstall \*\*(both grav controllers, natch) and **Jha’Dur** (a damned good clone, if I do say so myself.)

Miss 'em all, along with my beloved main.

A few years ago my DM had to come up with a village name on the fly and for some reason burst out with **Yom Kippur**. Which divorced from the context actually sounds like a foreign, but not silly-sounding, name. Much better than the other on the fly name he came up with: **Ronzoid**.

Also in CoH, I wanted a copy of Zero from our Finish the Superhero Story but **Zero** wasn’t available. He ended up being called **C2124** , a divide by zero error. His battlecry? “Divide and conquer!”

Hmmm.

In an actual tabletop RPG, the one that first comes to mind was Medrin the Mediocre. His stats were… eh.

I had a CoH character / NPC from a superhero game I ran called the White Russian - sort of a pale Soviet Superman.

Another CoH character, with his backstory indicating that he was a time traveler, from Alpha Complex. Friend Computer had sent him back to kill Jonk O-NOR, and his name was Sup R-HRO.

A friend ran a few incanrations of a Dragonball Z game, in which I played a half-Saiyan character - and all Saiyan names in the show are vegetable references, so I named him Kukuba.

When I played Final Fantasy VII the first time as a kid, I recall naming the protagonist Psi Kho, and the guy with the gun arm Maas Acre.
In City of Heroes I had:

Rabbit Trick, who was a rabbit girl who used Trick Arrows and according to her backstory had been pulled out of a hat by a Circle of Thorns mage who was trying to use stage magic. Yes, it was a Bullwinkle & Rocky reference.

Rabbit Punch: A Street Fighting/Super Reflexes rabbit girl.

Martial Artist, a Dark/Dark controller whose powers supposedly came from a magical artist’s brush and whose “dark” powers were all recolored to look paintlike.

Smashy the Clown, Earth/Willpower Brute. Known crimes include increasing the number of clowns that can be fit into a small car by smashing them flat first for easy stacking.

Occam the Razor, Katana/Ninjutsu Stalker (assassin). [He eliminates unnecessary entities](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor).

Kitten Crusade: A Mind/Radiation Controller whose costume used the Shoulder Cat; according to her backstory the cat was the hero, she was a psychic kitten who had hijacked a nuclear powered android from the mad scientist who created her.

Masochism: A Spines/Regen scrapper, his battlecry was “HURT ME MORE!” and his costume was covered in barbed wire.

Mad Man Mike; Mace/Willpower Brute. Big crazy guy.

Thought Policeman: Dual Pistols/Mental Blaster.

Deus Ex Machinist: Robots/Storm Control mastermind. A fun combo.

Taurus Malleus: A Mace/Electric Armor brute with the Bull head and hooves.

Herbicidal Maniac: Plant Control/Ice Assault Dominator, with the Ice powers recolored to look poisonous.

Time Crime: A Thugs/Time mastermind.

Well, the name’s not my own creation, but I had untold amounts of fun playing **Don Armando Adamo Rojas Martinez Mendoza Y Feliz De La Luz De Saragoz** at a pirate-themed murder party. With a name like that on your character sheet, how can you \*not \*feel obligated to irritatedly roll it out in full whenever someone calls you “Armando” or “Spaniard” ? Took me half an hour to learn it by heart, but see ? Still in there 🙂

Had a Russian rad/rad Defender in CoH with big faceted eyes and antennae. She was **The Chernobug** (a play on both Chernobyl, and the slav god Chernobog). Also a plant-themed spines/regen scrapper called **Rose Thorn**. And a fire/gadgets blaster called **ThermoCop** (“Room temperature or extra crispy, you’re coming with me”).
I forget what I called my villains though. I know I had a katana assassin called **Suddenly Kebab** , but I can’t remember the others.

My Everquest main was a delusional dark elf called **Ardulace Nasher’Baezon** , who fancied herself a god-queen of the realms and talked exclusively in the third person, with a capital. She was rarely amused. She also had a laundry list of self-given titles, I added one whenever I discovered a new zone or our guild achieved something important.

In DAoC I was **Frejolfna Niemandsdottir**. Tragic orphan, obviously.

I like to call my CRPG characters something like Master or Almighty One. That way NPCs show proper respect when speaking to me.

“What may I do for you, Almighty One?”

On the flip-side, I’ll name a character Fucknut, or Dickwad, or whatever. Then the NPCs become abusive.

I’m currently playing a character named Dipshit in Morrowind. Custom class: Loser. Earlier today I asked an NPC about a “little secret,” and was told “Not for you, Loser.”

It never gets old.

Now, in Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights, I always play Yosemite Sam. I created sound sets for this purpose. Fifteen years I’ve been playing these games, and it still cracks me up when my character bellows a battle cry, for instance: “Ya better say yer prayers, ya flea bitten varmint!” Or when he gets hit: “Why you mangy fang-toothed critter!”

I also created a Daffy Duck set for the BG games, never got around to it for NWN. I’ve got a few more sound sets I’ve downloaded. For ultimate chaos, I’ll sometimes run a game with six custom characters: Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck, Darth Vader, Mr. T, Eric Cartman, and Captain Kirk.

Heh, I’m reminded of a player in City of Heroes who mentioned on the CoH forums that they named a character “a tiny kitten” just for the resulting NPC dialogue.

“Oh no, a tiny kitten is here!”

“You fate approaches…and it is a tiny kitten!”

For _Freedom Force versus The Third Reich_, I created a character who exploited the extremely low cost of an attack type that makes world objects explode to get a cheap attack that had a huge amount of AoE, added a ton of knockback and gave him immunity to both. His name? Collateral Damage Man.

In a D&D game that never really got off the ground, I created a cat-person ninja-type character and named it Masahori Halsen.

It’s hilarious in Swedish.

I considered leaving it with that, but that’d be somewhat pointless. Masahori sounds like ‘massa hår i’ which means ‘lots of hairs in’, and Halsen means the throat.

I don’t do RPG’s but I play a lot of sports games that have “Be a Pro” options. Usually I’ll just go with my real name, or “Jack Batty.” But in some of those games you can choose how the announcer pronounces your last name; there’s rarely a “Batty” or a “my real last name” option, but there’s usually a “Crockett.” And thus the birth of the fictional Baseball/Football/Hockey/Soccer/Whatever player named, **Johnny Cockrocke** t (don’t worry, it’s pronounced just like Davey’s last name).

Once, for a one-off D&D game, I quickly threw together a rogue, and named him “The Notorious Hudon”. You may have heard of the many unsolved crimes which are attributed to him-- Hudon-it.

And back in my Diablo II days, the most popular character build was the hammerdin: A paladin who used Blessed Hammer. I was amazed that the name “Charles Martel” wasn’t already taken: The original “paladins” being peers of Charlemagne, and “Charles the Hammer” being his grandfather. I also had a poison-using necromancer called “Captain Mercaptan” (mercaptans being the chemicals responsible for the stench of rotting corpses) and a lightning-trap assassin named “Vanna deGraff”
