# Let's kill Opal! (sort of )

I mean, I like Opal as much as anyone, but we’re taking up valuable server capacity with this ancient “Hi,Opal” as the third line in every list. I say she should be ousted, or at least let’s rotate the members. If nominated, I would gladly serve for the first month. For instance a list could look something like this, and break the monotony…:
1. What are the words that DON’T end in gry?
2. Is it true that Esprix is having a secret affair with JDT?
3. Screw off, ageless6! We’re boycotting the board until we get Opal back, and we’re not posting in any of your threads, either. Hurry up and die, you old coot.
You could put anything you like in 3., as long as my name is mentioned. Wouldn’t that be more entertaining?

Sorry to have to disagree with you, **ageless6** , but there are a few reasons to keep this tradition.
1. Traditions are hard to break
2. People are comfortable with the familiar
3. Hi, Opal!
4. Writing _3. Hi, Opal!_ doesn’t really take up that much bandwidth
5. It would take up more bandwidth to create an announcement every month re: which member was going to be #3 that month.
6. Those people who perhaps had missed that month’s announcement would be embarrassed if they wrote somebody else’s name under #3.
7. There would be no end to posts requesting who’s #3 every month, thereby using up more bandwidth.
Sorry.

Of course not. It merely gave me an excuse to make a list and write “3. Hi, Opal!”

Who or what **is** Opal anyway? Why #3? Why not #4 or #2?

A million years ago, Opal mentioned she didn’t think lists with only two items were real lists, so everyone started adding “Hi Opal” as their third item. So now it is a real list. Ya dig? 🙂

Amen, ageless6. The “hi Opal” thing came. And then mercifully it went away. And for some reason now it’s back. I can’t speak for Opal, but I’m sure she finds it as tiresome as the rest of us do.

The ‘Hi, Opal’ is overused, because people use it inappropriately.
The point of it is, a list with two items is no list. ‘Hi Opal’ is the third item, to justify listing. If you have 3 or more items, ‘Hi Opal’ does not belong on your list.

I wonder if Opal is tired of it. I’ve never seen her comment one way or the other. I wish she’d post here. It’s not that I’m against it, but for me it’s like seeing a commercial I used to like for the 1,000th time. The thrill is gone.

It doesn’t take any bandwidth, it’s just silly after a while. But the same can be said about Chia Pets. What can one do?
