I think any betrayal of one’s country that’s serious enough to be treason has at least the possibility of causing death.
By the way, I didn’t mean to imply that changing or deleting crimes from the list is frowned on. I just hope people will try to work with the existing list as far as possible.

It is a violation of trust. It causes women to not trust those who claim to be friends. On the criminal’s side, I think it’s a worse crime to get to know someone and then rape them, as opposed to raping someone you don’t know - not unlike the difference between premeditated murder and the manslaughter of a stranger in a fight.

OK, it can go in IMHO if you want. I didn’t intend it to be a poll, though–I’m not just asking each person to post their own list of crimes.
“Date rape” sometimes is used to refer to any rape that begins with drugging someone’s drink at a bar or party. It doesn’t always imply a close relationship between the parties.
Ok Mangetout, how/why is rape worse than child abuse?
You should have added McCain/Obama or any variation to the title and it would have been camouflaged and stayed in GD.
Tier 1: Jaywalking, Littering, Drug Possession, Speeding, Public Drunkeness/Underage Drinking
Tier 2: DUI, Theft, Fraud, Destruction of Property/Vandalism, Possession w/ intent to deliver illegal drugs
Tier 3: Breaking & Entering, Automobile Theft, Grand Larceny, Assault & Battery
Tier 4: Rape, Child Molestation, Kidnapping, Date Rape
Tier 5: Attempted Murder, Murder
Tier 6: Murder of a Minor
Tier 7: Genocide/Treason
Nah, then we would have just moved it to the Pit.
If you murder a 90 year old is it as bad as murdering a 40 year old. Should they be different crimes? One loses maybe 5 or 10 years. The other maybe 45 or 50.

Gees – I worked on this once, for real. It took at least a couple of years to develop, and it is revised almost every year.
Here’s the current version Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines

A 90 year old isn’t expected to live 5 or 10 more years. In fact, the average life expectancy is more like 75, so by murdering a 90 year old you’re actually giving him 15 years. You should get a ribbon!

I think littering needs to be on this list, and higher than it placed before being cruelly stricken from the list of crimes. Littering comes with a high cost to the environment and public well-being. Also, because it seems innocuous, it is still somewhat socially acceptable, which makes it more pernicious.

One wonders why people rank torture as worse than murder. You can recover from torture and have a life. You can’t recover from death. It seems to me that causing someone much pain and suffering is still better than erasing the entire existence of a person.
