I’m curious as to whether or not he made a conscious decision to allow this stuff to be found. Or did he perhaps intend to throw it all out but then faded out fast and couldn’t?

How did the rat get in the cages?

I worked as a groundskeeper at a campground for some time. Once I found a misscarriage in a toilet stall. Must have been pretty shitty having that experience there.

Another time I had to crawl into a sewer drain and empty it of several weeks worth of diapers clogging it.

But for me gross turned into perplex. Some stalls I’ve cleaned defies any explanations other than malice and outstanding craftmanship.

Couldn’t find that, but did find [one about a hamster](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7750871) scavenging its owners corpse for material for its burrow.

It climbed up and grabbed the birds through the bars.

I went for an early morning walk in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Early enough that they hadn’t power-washed the sidewalks yet.

Don’t do that.

I had one where diarrhea seemed to have moved up from the bowl, in a manner similar to a [welding joint](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=welding+joint&t=ffsb&iax=1&ia=images&iai=http%3A%2F%2Fflashcustoms.files.wordpress.com%2F2012%2F04%2Fmig-welding.jpg). This five cm strip went up the bowl, around underneath the ring, up the lid, down the lid and I kid you not, up the tank, ending it’s journey on the flushing button.

I just remembered this one. One time some friends and I were urban-exploring a closed children’s camp. We were in the dining hall and found a dead bird. It looked very much dead but the head was moving back and forth in a kind of animatronic manner. We stared at it in awe wondering wtf - is it alive? if so we need to put it out of its misery - until my friend picked up a chair and used the leg to turn it over. A massive beetle crawled out of a hole in the body cavity.

I’ve done that.

It’s amazing how different Bourbon street smells than the streets on either side. The whole area has the distinct aroma of old densely-used urban areas. But Bourbon street is in a world of its own smell-wise.

Worst I can offer is the time I was sorting donated clothes at the thrift store I work at, and found womens’ underwear with dried blood CAKED on it.

Although I cannot come even close to the Honduran latrine or the -5 \* toilets, I do have a story. I must have been around 20 and lived with my parents. Our windows had separate screens and storm windows. Every spring we dragged the screens from a storage space in our garage and replaced the storm windows with screens and carried the storm windows into the garage and every fall we reversed this. A major pain.

We had a cat. Or a cat had us. He lived mostly outside but would come in to be fed most days. He would also catch and eat birds. One day during the winter, he disappeared and didn’t come back for three days. Three months later when we went to get the screens, we found the remains of a skunk up on the shelves with the screens. These shelves were actually above he car. I can assume only that the cat had used the car roof to schlep the skunk up there and then gone elsewhere for a few days until the smell had mostly gone away.
