# Lexinauts (Go where no man has gone before!)

This thread suggests a game to me. If you look at the examples in the OP you might think the statements are odd at first. The idea, as stated, is to invent an utterance, a combination of words which are so unlikely as to be unique.

But look at one example: “Hand me that piano.” I can envision a dollhouse maker making that request of his apprentice, in reference to a piece of miniature furniture. And “Gee dad, you really should drink more,” could have been said by a boy stranded with his father in a desert, holding a canteen to his dehydrated father’s parched lips.

The game would be played by offering a seemingly absurd utterance; next, someone describing a scenario where the utterance would not be absurd at all (or as little as possible), and then offering another such utterance for the next player.

Maybe we’ll give it a try in the future.

I’ll now describe a parlor game for those with imagination or a flair for writing. I’ll tentatively call it the “Incorporated Quote Game.” A seemingly strange quote will be offered to a group armed with pen and paper. The players will each write a brief scenario with dialogue incorporating the quote verbatim into their work. The pieces are read anonymously and voted on as to the best (or not if no competition is desired.) Hilarity will undoubtedly ensue.
