I’ll join in with the applause for a superb rant, but next time print to a $#@!@#@ PDF file and transfer it to your Mom’s (or whoever’s localhost already-connected) computer if your computer needs a driver other than the ones the OS already comes with. ---

A few quick points: 1. There was no “expert mode” – I told WinXP to get the drivers because the **autorun.inf** on the CD installs everything, as does the **SETUP.EXE** ; so, no expert mode that I could see. 2. The CD was the Win9x/2000/XP CD that comes with the printer/scan/fax/copier. 3. The mother-in-law only has dial-up through AOL (don’t get me started) so downloading my own drivers _seemed_ like more hassle than it was worth. Thanks all for the commiseration. And you two kids up front: if you don’t cool down, I’ll throw a bucket of cold toner on you… and then charge you Lexmark’s prices! 😃 ---

Get an Epson. I´ve had mine (and Stylus 600) for 6 years or more and still prints like the first day, cartdriges are dirt cheap and it doesn´t muck your machine with the junkware you described. Yep, Epsons are more expensive, mainly because of the piezo-electric nozzles instead of the crappy bubble jet type used on the Lexmark cartdriges. But boy, is it work the extra money on the long run! ---

I proceded patiently to explain at quite some length and, despite never quite admitting his error, he eventually apologized. We had no real animosity since that time until now when, suddenly, he could not stop himself from hijacking this thread to attack El Cid, one of the board’s most intelligent posters, for no good reason other than having a snit. And it was the exact same attack for which he had apologized — calling someone else stupid. I defended El Cid, and I will do so again whenever some other Neanderthal calls him stupid. ---
