Did you not notice that Lib himself has stated a couple posts above yours that this was not the clip that he was claiming to see?
Here’s a thought. Not a great one one, but still…
I go to Star Trek conventions. (Yeah, I know. Geek.) At these conventions, there are usually one or two viewings of upcoming shows or movie trailers, etc… At some of these viewings, we are treated to clips and out takes of show and movies. They are not all sci-fi. I remember seeing very old Andy Griffith (Griffin?) Show and Jeopardy! flubs.
Maybe something like that is what Libby “remembers?”
Folks, can I make a suggestion here as the person who started this thread lo those many moons ago?
Most of what is being discussed now is the same stuff that was discussed then. This thread was dredged up from the long-dead. The fact remains that Libertarian remembers one thing and many of us say that there is no evidence for that – even now that the long-sought-after clip has become available. Libertarian even noted the concessions he has made.
Even moreso than most Great Debates, I don’t see that there is anything that can come out of this. Let’s let it go back to the depths where it had been for two and a half years.
Well, as the guy that did the dredging, I had a worthy motive: to add to the known, verifiable facts surrounding the story.
But I must admit, David B, that in reviewing your posts of then and now, you continue to display a remarkable lack of contrition.
I know, I know – you’ve nothing to be contrite about, right? Lib’s recollection isn’t this clip, and the mere fact that a clip surfaced with “…in the ass,” has nothing whatsoever to do with the “…in the butt,” claim. They are completely distinct. There’s still no evidence for Lib’s claim, and you have in no way been disproved by this clip’s appearance.
But in the interests of intellectual honesty – suppose, back in 2000, I had joined the fray and said, “No, no - I remember it vividly: it wasn’t a black couple, they were dark-complected but not black. And it was the woman who said the funny line, and it was ‘…in the ass.’” If that had happened - in other words, if someone had offered a completely accurate description of the event - how would you have reacted?

It’s not a lack of contrition – it’s boredom with the subject. If memory serves, there was another thread (or possibly more than one) that was started after the clip was found, and this was discussed again there. So this one thread does not tell the whole tale.
Not really, no. I was going based on all available evidence vs. Libertarian’s lone recollection. So one urban legend in a thousand turned out to be mostly correct. I’ll still bet against the next one.
What it shows is that Libertarian’s memory (and I’m not singling him out – all memory) is fallible. He has admitted this, so I’m not really sure what you’re arguing here. Did you expect me to get down on my knees and beg his forgiveness? Like I said, we discussed it further in at least one other thread, though owing to the time that has elapsed I must admit that I don’t full recall the discussion.
At the time, I would have pointed out exactly the same things that I pointed out earlier here – that it was an urban legend, that there was no evidence this clip existed, that the host of the show denied it, etc. The weight of evidence was that the whole thing was an urban legend. (In point of fact, it still IS an urban legend, since we can see how the story changes with different people telling it, and some urban legends do in fact have their basis in a true event.)
I am neither the OP nor the person referenced, but in the interest of the smooth functioning of the SDMB, it would be my hearty request that this thread be locked by a moderator.
If you could lock Libertarian up too, we’d be much obliged. 
But… but… David B has to fight for the “most pitted moderator of the year” title! How can you get pitted if you lock down the threads that are most likely to get you pitted? This whole thing is rigged! It’s a conspiracy to make manhattan the most pitted mod and keep him there!

Agree or not with David B, at least he’s still willing to get into they fray with the pleibs and doesn’t just leave his ivory mod tower to ban someone or close a thread he personally dislikes like some other mods.
I don’t quite understand what you mean by this. Do you mean if you hear anything more about conspiracies among the mods(or “Nazi mod” accusations) that you’re going to put up a pit rant? Is the “three towns” a metric of how many more times you’d ignore it before you opened your thread? Who would be the pittee? The vague “moderator conspiracy believers”?(sounds remarkably like the term for the group of people who believe the moon landing was a hoax) Or would you be pitting me? :eek:

I’m still confused. If you’re nowhere near opening a thread on the subject, why would you make a post saying you may make a thread on the subject? It was the “three towns”(which I have not heard used as a synonym for “quite a far distance”) bit which mostly confused me.
No need to be scared though. Unless, of course, you actually DO open a pit thread with me as the subject, then you better be ready for what nearly a decade on usenet(including a good bit of time in alt.flame) has taught me.
